I put color on my Mk5 last week. I'll be adding a full body and paint thread in a day or two after I load up some more photos but in the meantime here's a preview.

That looks great Jeff. I know it's a custom mix, so what name are you giving the color? It looks different every time I look at the photos.

Is that PPG's Lexus Brandywine? Base coat and clear?

We got very imaginative and just called it "Kleiner brown" when we saved the formula in the computer :p

No, this is Lexus Brandywine:

I bet you remember someone did a 'root beer' FFR some years ago. He had a kinda maybe similar color and part of the car was a light tan. I liked his and I like yours too.

Looks great Jeff. Depth of color is awesome. Love the hood scoop! What would you say are the biggest improvements for paint and body?

The one in post #5? I did that.

Looks fantastic.

Can you tell us about the scoop? Do MKV’s under mount like that or is that something you did? I have to say I’ve been excited about the details of your build for a while. I’m glad there is a thread coming.

Jeff, as always, the paint looks killer! Love that color and you will no doubt have to share more about that scoop? Very unique and cool to boot! So, I guess this now makes you a waxer after all? ;) Anyway, Looking forward to your build details…

Beautiful color and beautiful work Jeff.
I can't wait to see your car completed.
What power plant did you choose ?

...What would you say are the biggest improvements for paint and body?...

I'll go into detail in the upcoming thread but in a nutshell the result is that amount of time required to make the body primer ready is reduced by 60% vs a typical Mk4.

...Is the car yours or a client's ?

It's one of the three Mk5 Beta cars and is mine.

...Can you tell us about the scoop? Do MKV’s under mount like that or is that something you did?...

The scoop is of my doing. I did a car for a customer 6 or 7 years ago with a "faux shaker" and had kind of forgotten about it until my buddy Michael Craven suggested doing it when I posed the question of "scoop or no scoop" to him and some other friends. The standard Factory Five scoop is just like the Mk4 but there is an option for Carbon Fiber. Speaking of CF, I will be getting one of the Carbon Fiber hardtops when they arrive and am going to finish it with a tinted "candy" clear which will color match the body but allow the weave to show through. Here's a test sample:

https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=214080&d=1747749226

You might also notice that there are no holes for bumper tubes; I've made hidden body mounts so there will be no bumpers or quick jacks on either end but the production Mk5s still have them.

That's sick. Will look incredible. What did you decide for a power plant?

I am 87% sure at this point I am going to go with a CF scoop and either simply clear coat it or maybe just paint the center stripe and clear it.

I think I remember something about a SBF, . Maybe it had a 3, could also have been a 4 and a 6???, no a 7.
But my memory isn't as it used to be

Now if FFR could only make similar improvements to the '33 Hot Rod, they'd make a lot of future customers happier...

What? Not JABC? No stripes?? LOL

Color looks really good and I'd like to see more of the scoop (looks cool).
Look forward to seeing all put together.

Great color and beautiful work as usual! Probably one of the best examples of why one needs to see paint on curved surfaces to fully appreciate the final appearance - that color is so dynamic. Can't wait to see the final completion.

Great work! Love the metallic! Thinking of this (https://autopainthq.com/products/candy-pearl-electric-blue-over-black-base-complete-gallon-kit?variant=39879130710071) color with white pearl stripes.
Jeff, what steps would you recommend in prepping the MK4 body and painting with this or similar candy color? I'm a novice in painting, but I'm not afraid to challenge myself and learn new things.
This is my plan, but I would highly appreciate your feedback!

1. Block sanding the body with different size sand paper, removing the mold seams.
2. One coat of polyurethane primer. Block sanding with fine paper. Repeat the coating if necessary.
3. Thinking of filler, but not sure if it is needed or even beneficial in this case.
4. Base coat with 1.3 size nozzle with 9-9.5CFM. Let it flash and repeat.
5. Sanding with very fine paper? Not sure about this step...
6. Clear coat. May be 2 coats in total.

This link to the thread below is a good read and Jeff has a lot of input in it. Pretty much everything you need to know about doing the body work yourself.

Just saw this thread now. (A little late, but what can I say...)

The color looks amazing! You told me you were going to make a few "adjustments" to Brandywine, and it came out really nice! And I'm willing to bet that the car in post #5 is mine... Can't wait to put your Mark V next to my Mark IV!
