Seriously, all of you, knock it off! Let FFR do their job and build the car, please hang tight and wait for real updates, and for the love of god stop whining about every little detail that means absolutely nothing until a rolling chassis is functional and a body has been officially selected. After that has happened then you can go back to complaining, but at least then it might be about things that actually matter...
But seriously, quit it, your ruining this forum.
Regarding your concerns with the 818 project.....

Couldn't agree more. I had to stop reading all the posts regarding this new car.

That's not very nice. In the absence of any real information human beings tend to speculate - it's human nature. To expect otherwise is unrealistic. I'm sorry you don't like what they are speculating and lamenting about. Once there is more real information, I'm sure most of what you don't care for will be replaced with normal forum topics regarding builds, options, parts, etc. In the mean time, I would point out you do have a choice of whether or not to read posts in this forum...

Stop creating new posts telling people to stop whining! You're only contributing to further ruining this forum!
;)
Good grief.................whining about whiners is the epitome of whining.

While he may have stated his case a bit strongly, StatGSR does, I think, have a point. I have posted a reminder to myself on this forum in the past that once I get my own car company going () to not involve my customers in design contests.
The 818 has, at this point, been talked into a "death by a thousand threads." I think a new visitor to the 818 forum, coming in to check out the scene, would walk away disgusted by the bickering and whining and never return. Reminds me of those damned Corvette clubs, which is a place and attitude that the FFR community has never ventured into before.

It's human nature to speculate when info is lacking. It normal to have, and express, differing opinions. It prevalent on every forum that discusses something that does not yet exist. This on is no different.
It will go away as info and final product arrives. Until then, fighting it is just as annoying (to some) as wading through it.

While I think there has been some useless bickering, and some counterproductive FFR critizism, I think overall the 818 forum has been very successful. As a barometer of (potential) client feedback, as a source of ideas, as a way to vet product goals and direction, and as a way to build excitement and anticipation.
Sure, its not all rainbows and unicorns, this not My Pretty Ponycar. Its a real forum with real people talking about a soon to be real component car.

But But StatGSR you must remember as Donald Rumsfeld said
"There are known knowns; there are things we know we know.
We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know.
But there are also unknown unknowns – there are things we do not know we don't know. ” :o

And then there are also unknown knowns unwanted - things we don't know and then know and don't want to know. Just kidding.
You have to admit there are some interesting thoughts coming out of these 818 threads that otherwise would be not said. I believe FFR is listening a lot more closely than most people think. If Dave and company are as customer oriented as they say (I think they are), the decisions that shape the path of the 818 will be made to some extent on the discussions. I wish they would listen to increasing the WB just a little, at least for the street version but that probably won't happen. That brings up another point which is, "you ask for what you want and you may get what you need". WEK.

Sounds as if you may not be alone with that sentiment:
...the team here feels that we would be best served by shutting down the conversation and simply launching the car. I feel there is good purpose to contined conversation, but I think a reality will be that we will simply stick to development nodes and put out information as we are done with stages.

Well, technically, that would be "nitpicking". My noting that, of course, brings our picking of nits to a new and ridiculous low. Just sayin'.:p

Be patient... I guess two kids (19 & 15) helped me to develop some...
Info will be forthcoming.... trust F5 to get it right
some have too much time on their hands!
Whining about too much whining:( Maybe this forum has run its course. I think sometimes the speculations and wants are a bit too much, but then again I can stop reading anytime I want. Can Dave and FFR build a winner on their own? Maybe, building a fast, awesome looking car is no guarantee its going to be a success. Ask Dave about the Spyder GT, dead sexy good looks, built on the coupe chassis. I think they sold 37 over a few years before discontinuing the model. Utter failure. Just because FFR is not asking for our direct help does not mean anybody who is interested needs to completely shut up. For the most part discussions have been civil, and interesting.
I wish FFR the best on their own, I'm sure with the amount of passionate feedback they've been given they know what the people want and will do a good job.

I just thank God that all the "boo freakitty hooing" is relegated to the 818 forum and has not infected the rest of the forum.

Funny thread.
My 3 cents?
1) Trust Dave Smith. He's got the passion, the experience and the smarts to think TOTALLY through the designs before investing the huge amounts of cash needed.
2) This isn't to all, just a few: Don't take yourself so seriously. Sit back and have a good chuckle when someone presents an opinion that you think is just plain nuts.
Remember, we all have different life experiences that make us who we are and those differences are what vause us to form our opinions.
When I saw the first 4 models there was one that I really liked, one I trhought was ok and 2 I didn't care for.
Then others started voicing opinions and my picks were in the minority.
I smiled and said to myself "Maybe my taste blows":D
Maybe I'm just milder in my approach to life than most.
Life to me is far to short to get my blood pressure up over the little things.
Now the day I was at FFR and saw that Coyote powered Mk4 THAT was worth getting the blood pressure up!:D

We just need some new material, we've beat the dead horse of the cars design to deathbut we have yet to get to the meat of the vehicle.
We know very little about how all the mechanicals are going to work together - we don't even have a donor parts list yet
There will be a bunch issues I'm sure will crop up that only the Subie guys are gonna know the answers to, so we don't wanna push then away.
Frank and the rest of you don't seem to know the difference between complaining and whining -

One phenomenon that is occuring on 818 forum vs other FFR forums is this car isn't built yet. The other forums, someone becomes interested, lurks, finds out the kit has some things that fall short of their wants/needs, and move on. Those people leave without anyone hearing them complain, or FFR knowing a potential sale came and went.
With the 818, people become interested, find out things are still in flux, so they stick around, and voice their opinion. FFR gets a chance to hear what people want, and decide which things are worth trying to accomodate.
Its not that the 818 forum is 'infected', its just that its more diversified.

I knew this post wouldn’t be welcomed with open arms by most, which is why I had my flame suit prepared
http://mmaforum.se/attachments/f12/672d1325847870-b-j-penn-bashar-nick-diaz-vill-ha-rematch-flamesuit.jpg
My intents were not to stop people from speculating or asking questions, as mentioned speculation as well as curiosity are normal.
But I still urge people to sit back and relax a bit, I see way to many people getting worked up over someone else’s unofficial speculation and there is just no need for that. If it was over a legitimate statement or update from Dave that would have an actually impact on the outcome of the 818 project that’s another thing.
Do you guys remember when Daves ”818 Project Updates From Dave” actually had updates form Dave? I do, but I can’t remember the last time that thread was used for that purpose…. Thank goodness he started a new thread…. That was nearly instantly destroyed in how he should start a new thread that we wouldn’t be able to destroy, because we already know we are the problem from the first go around…
Even the whole body war has gone on way to long….. would I love to see Rodney’s design come to life, you bet! But I’m not going to complain about it potentially not being the final body, or the first body, or the third body, or that it won’t fit the chassis (keep in mind the chassis is not finalized and likely won’t be until the first body is selected) etc… Bickering like that gets nobody anywhere useful and it is the type of behavior that takes away from the forum and part of the reason I haven’t hardly posted in 2 months. Its almost to the point where I see no point in being active until Dave and FFR release more official information.
Yes, the unknows are out there…. lurking in the shadows… but pretending we have control over them is just a big waste of everybody’s time. FFR knows how to design and build a car, most of us whether we would admit it or not, do not. That is why I plead for people to be patient, and please just try to concentrate on the knowns!

you wanna know why? because we've been given nothing else to talk about

Valid point, but this is an internet forum and this how it generally goes when people have a place they like to visit and are BAW, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that people are posting for the sake of posting.
They're keeping the forum alive.
There is nothing worse than coming in here and seeing absolutely nothing new.
We've had several threads started with quite valid concerns in the last couple of months.
