So, I'm going for inspection in a few weeks. Already talked to the inspector, and they told me the car needs a wiper. Doesn't have to be permanent, doesn't have to be electrically-driven; it just needs one. This is my solution, and they've told me it'll work. $17 for a UTV/SxS manual wiper from Amazon for $17, and 20 minutes of my time in the shop to fabricate the bracket. So simple. I made two small square bits of aluminum that slide into the windshield channel, drilled and tapped, and used a couple of short screws through the bracket to draw it up. Boom. It'll be removed 5 minutes after inspection.

Fantastic solution! I have been debating on whether I should just skip the wiper install altogether and this makes it possible. You wouldn't happen to have the link for it, would you?

Just read up on our state law. They require wipers on both left and right sides.:(

I suppose you could install two of them...

That's pretty nifty. I'm not sure if I need something like that for MO or not. Maybe I can buy it off you when you're done with it. ;)

I live in Wichita. Kansas Highway Patrol offered to come to the house due to the potential of weather prohibiting my appointment. The law actually says "...in the event of precipitation..." a means of removing the precip is required. I challenged the officer that the rule was a futuristic event and due to an open cockpit, I had no plans or desire to operate in a precip environment. He acknowledged and I passed the inspection. Been on the road since May 2022 with 4500 miles, came across several police cars. No issues.213593

My MkIII passed inspection 20 years ago without one, but that's what I'm being told now. They also told me...get this...the law states you have to have wipers, but you don't have to have a windshield. A guy brought a dune buggy in to get it inspected because he wanted to register it for street use. It had no windshield, but he had to put a wiper on it, regardless. They inspector laughed about that, but he put one on to pass inspection...

We can pass it around the KC metro as needed. There's one other builder (forum member 'Kirby') who is going to use it for inspection, and TrackDay17 is in Shawnee, and he'll likely use it, too. Feel free to borrow it if you need it. Hit me up whenever.

I was told the same when I got mine inspected back in October last year. I’m also near Wichita, but I have a coupe, so wipers made a bit more sense.

I wish the guy who currently has these would respond.

I went through the inspection process a couple of years ago in Johnson County, KS and the inspection only consisted of them verifying the number on the chassis matched the MSO paperwork. I had wipers but they didn't look at anything else.

Not that they do much, but I'm glad I had the wipers as I have been caught in the rain 3 or 4 times. As long as you keep moving the wipers work and hardly any water gets on the inside of the windshield...

Good call on the manual wiper. I did something very similar.

Maryland rules don't require electric wipers so I crafted a manual one. Is removed now, but I have used it on occasion and it works well. I can easily reinstall when needed.

Yeah same ... I could've used these some time ago, but I never got them. I actually wound up doing a Montana registration to save myself the hassle of dealing with wipers. Oh well ...

I had to have one in Ohio.
I used this one https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedway-Hand-Crank-Manual-Windshield-Wiper,2301.html?utm_medium=CSEGoogle&utm_source=CSE&utm_campaign=CSEGOOGLE&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=19186981156&gbraid=0AAAAAD8-Mck2N4dBfv6ZKZkPHPwUULPcZ&gclid=CjwKCAjw24vBBhABEiwANFG7y75p08ki0-NbP_Usj8GsPXpXuuoos-j-Mc2la1iyaYrG4sQA9QoJJhoCvNAQAvD_BwE
Plus this bracket https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedway-Manual-Hand-Windshield-Wiper-Mount-Bracket,3416.html
The bracket clamped around the frame pretty well. It could be left on permanent if desired.

Bumping this just in case someone is in need of some temporary wipers. I was able to find the previous holder a few weeks ago. The inspector didn't even ask for a demonstration...

PM me if you need them, and thanks to skidd (post 10) for starting the "pay it forward campaign"!
