View Full Version : The coupe chassis does flex quite a bit.

Lots of talk about how stiff the coupe chassis is, and with that being said I do expect some flex. However, I was shocked to find that it flexes quite a bit. I had my car up on quick jacks for a couple months. Keep in mind the car was completely fit beforehand and everything lined up proper, (removed all to spray underliner ) I only removed doors with the hinge bolts.

Anyways the doors were shutting fine on the jacks. Drop the car down and to my surprise the strikers are hitting the doors. Up on jacks they were within an 1/8in. Point being is if you’re going to do final fitment of the doors then maybe do it with the car on the ground.

8+ years 12000+ miles - numerous rides given - 800+ horsepower - I only adjusted the doors 2 times in the first 200 miles... the bolts and spacers do give a bit and after the first 100 or so open closes I had to make an adjustment - then again when I put the side windows in... but all good now... not sure why I would be different with the car in the air and on the ground - they do flex some especially if it's a gen 2 or 1 - Gen 3 will flex some but I can open my doors whether it's on the ground on 1 jack stand or 4....

not sure...

Same here with my Gen 3 Coupe... on and off the lift, jack stands, now the fifth driving season, and zero changes. Doors open, close and latch like the day I did the final installation. I would suspect the door hinges and adjustments more than the chassis. They are not the most accessible or easy to get properly tightened (maybe...).

I had to make a couple of small adjustments in the beginning but fingers crossed nothing since then.

Ya I can’t figure it out either. I even have my striker posts with the body sandwiched between it. I’m going to investigate again because I didn’t have this issue before. Yall got me thinking I was crazy so I just shot this video…

I’m trying to wrap my head around this considering the quickjacks are long and cover the entire frame. The only explanation I can think of is the chassis extending with the weight of the engine and rear on the jacks and then flexing back once on the ground.

PS this is an easily resolved issue, just caught me off guard that it is both doors and easily replicated.
