Hi all,

Finished my 7-year build over the winter (graduation pictures coming soon…).

In the process my wife and I have decided to make the move from Massachusetts to New Hampshire.

Therefore I will not go through all the bull$&@ that MA requires to title, register, emissions, etc. and will now do so in NH

Anyone got any tips and guidance on titling and registering (and inspection) in NH???

I have a new Coyote in it if that matters (it does in MA).

Much thanks in advance,

Mark

I'm in NH and the process was very straight forward for me. NH Registers the car as the year it replicates. Mine is registered as a 1965 Shelby Cobra. I have classic plates and as of this year no longer need an inspection sticker. When I did mine the only things they checked were headlights, blinkers and brakes. They never even opened the hood.

Awesome.

I had heard it was much simpler, but good to hear from someone directly.

Live Free or Die

Was it easy to get a vin as well ?

Do you think because I have a “modern” engine they will still let me register as a classic?

Thanks for responding and sharing you experience.

There's 4 Cobra in my local area. Which is crazy considering it's a small town (Hollis) with 1 stop light. 3 are Factory Fives and 1 is an ERA. None of us have a Coyote. We are all old school pushrods. 2x doner 302, 1x 427 and mine is a 347 stroker. The VIN process was straight forward. For mine they just used the FFR number as the VIN. The VIN process was about verifying that nothing is stolen and not so much about what it was.

If your move to NH is a few months out I wouldn't hesitate to register in Mass. The Mass process for getting a VIN and register/title the car is quite simple and can be done in one day. It is the emissions after the car is on the road that becomes a hassle, most folks just don't take it in for safety/emissions inspection. Unless you get stopped for some other violation law enforcement just doesn't care when it comes to collector cars.

Also, a friend of mine that has had 1963 replica on the road for 5 years with it only being subjected to safety inspection got flagged last year for emissions. He was initially told by the Motorist Assistant Center he had to crush a car to get an emissions exemption. He had been trying to get an exemption based on his engine being a CARB compliant crate motor from GM. Last month they told him to stop and do nothing, the rules are being changed in Mass.

What. and when are they changing? I'm hopefully going through the process this summer. Sorry to hijack the NH thread, but I'm stuck in MA.

I do not know when it is changing. The Motorist Assistance Center just told my friend not to do any work to his car to meet emissions because the rules are changing. At this point I wouldn't worry about inspection, I know people that have been driving their collector cars for years without an inspection sticker.

Also... Just FYI. (back to New Hampshire) If your car is registered as a 1965 (like mine is) then it is now considered to be "60 years old" and no longer needs a New Hampshire inspection sticker.

This is exactly what I want to avoid (now that I have options :))

Thanks John 42. This is the direction I's going. What is the process in NH to get a VIN (with the FFR number). Where do you go for this in NH ?

Thanks again,

Mark

I started with my local town clerk and local police office. Thankfully I wasn't the first Cobra in town and my local clerk knew exactly what to do. What town are you in? I'm in Hollis.

Moving to Hebron (North tip of Newfound Lake)

I can start there I suppose. There may be another cobra in town (very small town).

Did the town clerk issue your VIN?

Beautiful town. We had a cottage in Hebron (Cooper Rd) and I've spent a lot of time on that lake.
