As I'm getting ready to close up the transmission tunnel for good, I got looking at the transmission and more specifically the shift shaft that comes up. There are some openings there that I'm thinking should be shielded from dirt. Has anyone put a rubber boot over the shifter base in addition to the boot that you see in the car? I was looking at Summit.com and there are quite a few to choose from. Just wondering if anyone has a specific part number that worked.

Hasn't been an issue for me with thousands of miles on multiple builds. The underside of the tunnel -- and specifically in the shifter area -- is shielded by the transmission itself. Unless you're planning some off-roading or mudding () it's a solution without a problem.

I guess that's good news. I'll put my worries to bed now.
