Hey builders-I got the body on this weekend and need to pull a rear tire to work on the fuel fill hose. With the body on my HF low profile jacks won’t reach the 4” tube where I usually place the jack. I didn’t find a post newer than 2015-do y’all still think it’s ok to jack under the 2x2 square tubes perpendicular to the round tubes?
Thanks

I haven't done it, but one club member told me it's OK.
He has been working on these for more than a decade. I would believe it's OK for minor things like you are attempting.

That's fine. Or just go in and put the jack under the differential.

I used the diff as a jack point.

In a previous life and a different car I'd go in outside of the oil cooler cowl and lift enough to get 2x8s under the front tires. From there I could get to a crossmember. Fairly certain that will work on the Mk4 chassis. Hitting the diff is easy. It's always a bit of a dance to get them off the ground.

I'd be careful on that crosswise 2x2. It is definitely strong enough. However the problem is that, as you jack it up, the 2x2 angle changes relative to the floor. If you go too far, the jack can start sliding out from under the 2x2.

Craig, thanks. If I jack it on the 2x2 it will be just to get the tire off the ground. If I need the car higher, once it’s a few inches up, I’ll slide another jack under the 4”. I have 2 of the HF low profile Daytona jacks(and others)-they reach only 1/2 way across the 4” when they hit the body. I would get the HF long reach low profile if I could justify a 4th floor jack in the shop -LOL

Another option is one jack on each side of the car. A bit of hopping back and forth but then you can go higher up if you want.

Been using the 2" frame member for years, Never had one slip yet, but I have had them come off the 4" tube. The tube being round has less contact area than the flat 2" square frame member.

Rich, good point. I should say if I can reach and get on the 4” I’m golden with this adapter I machined in a friends shop.

I’m going to check and see if it’s compatible with the long reach low profile HF jack and talk myself into another jack (I love tools). :)
