Like the title says, it's time for a new 5-point harness. I'm leaning towards this one: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/gfr-7000bk.

I like the 3" wide straps to distribute force over a wider section of my body, and I think a cam lock will be easier for my son to get in and out of.

Thoughts?

P.S. In climbing, we replace all soft goods every ten years, or earlier if they show signs of wear. My harness was manufactured in 2015, which is why I say it's time for replacement.

Mine is very similar. Cam lock makes all the difference

We started out with the FFR supplied lever latch belts and hated them, just spent too much time fiddling with trying to get them latched. Changed them out to cam lock and a world of difference. Just click - click - click and ready to go. Flip the lever and you're free.

You can get harnesses that have 3" straps but have a narrower ("dogbone") portion over the shoulder for comfort and to accommodate a HANS device. Here's an example: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cws-11104db

I prefer the 6pt harness cause umm.

Anyway, I also get the narrower or dogbone over the shoulder for a HANS..

Currently I have these: https://www.saferacer.com/collections/racing-harnesses/products/gforce-fia2-harness

I ditched the supplied harness for a camlock as well. Just makes too much sense. I did however go down to a 2 inch. I hear yeah on the spreading of force. I went with a unit that had integrated padding in the shoulder. Just think it might be more comfortable.
