Like the title says...how much power you guys making? I plan on going with at least 500hp but also plan on my 33 weighing quite a bit more than some of the other builds. So just chime in ya want folks.

Hey Vince,

I've got a completely stock 302 in my 33 at 250HP/250lbft and it's good enough for me right now. And I can do donuts all day long! :) My plan was to build on the cheap and slowly upgrade as I learn the characteristics of the car and how it handles. 500HP is great and all but this car is so light and stiff in the rear you could have problems giving it any real gas so plan on running some big sticky tires. Mine will step out at will and I can't imagine doubling the HP!

Cheers,

Erik

Oh I plan on sticky tires but I also plan on mine being slightly heavier than some built. I plan on the PS,PB and A/C options. As well as the hard top with power windows. Fully sound deadened interior with a small stereo. Ill be using an automatic trans as well....so that will be a bit heavier than the manual.

Mine has all the above that mentioned, plus full fenders. I have a 500 HP gen 3 HEMI powering it. I would check with Factory Five before going too much more powerful than 500 HP/500 Ft-lbs to make sure that the chassis can take it. Might want to start gusseting, if needed.

I have this engine, 535hp/540torque at the crank. Nice wide power band. The Toyo R888 Proxies on the rear are real sticky.

Here's a run I made up to 100mph... missed the shift to 3rd as the tranny is still stiff with the Tremec tko 600.

Wow! We were watching the timer and it looked like you were around 7 or 8 seconds to 100mph! Most impressive!

Vince,

Ford Racing 475HP 392 stroker, Tremec TKO 5 speed, Moser 331 gear and Dunlop 275/35 R18 Sport Z-1. 57 miles on the car so don't have real good idea but no problem getting squirrely in 2nd. gear. The car is equiped as yours except no radio.

Vince, not really - Like I said I've added the same as you in terms of extras. My guess would be around the 2,600 lbs mark.

Yes, but not much of that weight your adding is over the rear end either. Don't get me wrong but like the other guys are saying breaking it loose will be very easy. Sounds like fun to me though! Can't wait to see it.

I am running carbed 351W T5 with 2.95 first and 3.73 rear posi-trac. Motor is around 400Hp. Will keep the smile factor high when right foot pushes down.

Vince,

I've got a whopping 225hp going downhill with a tail wind ;) 225 is pretty good for a 53 blown Flathead motor though. I was going more for old school but not traditional looks versus power.

If the FFR 2.25" exhaust system is used, including the FFR supplied mufflers, I would have to think that a bunch of power will be lost with a big HP (450+) engine. You will be using shorty headers as well remember.

I would be suprised if the Ford Racing 427 535hp engine puts more than 410-420 to the wheels (that's still a lot of power!). I think that the stock FFR exhaust would be choking that engine.

If you can, have a nice custom 2.5-3.0" oval tubing system made and ditch the FFR mufflers for something better.

For some perspective have you ever seen a 2.25" performance exhaust system offered for a Mustang?

Just some food for thought.

What HP do I have for my '33? A mild 349 that dynoed at 436hp@5900 rpm and 430 lb-ft@4200 rpm. The torque is nice with 408 lb-ft@3800rpm and staying over 400 lb-ft to 5600rpm. This was with the Ford Racing 1 5/8" shorty headers on the dyno.

Running 11.30s in the 1/4 mile at about 120MPH with the specs above. I had to slow launch (i.e. not dump the clutch) last year because I did not have a front brake line lock and could not properly heat the rears. Adding about 50 more HP (new intake, smaller S/C pulley, calibration, etc.) along with some minor suspension tweaks this winter. Should be in the high 10s this year. The link below is an 11.4 sec pass in Great Bend, Kansas last year on Hot Rod Drag Week. I need more '33 owners to join me on this insanity trip in September!
