Hello all—I was recently watching a film where a mechanic was diagnosing an engine problem which he attributed to the driver improperly treating his car by not revving high enough and thereby fouling the plugs etc. The clip is in Ford vs. Ferrari and scene ends when the enraged customer storms off and barely gets out of the parking lot. It’s a great scene.
So what are some tips and techniques for driving these motors? I’m running a BP 347 with Sniper and five speed. Low speed cruise arena to on the highway.

I remember the scene quite well. Many modern advancements in automotive engine parts have all but eliminated this problem from the past.
Electronic Fuel injection, Electronic Ignition systems, are the 2 biggest advancements that keep plug from getting so dirty they are less effective.
Modern fuel without lead can't lead foul plugs that is for sure .......

I agree w/ F&J Fan, that is no longer anything to worry about. And I also agree w/ GDG. If I come back from an errand and didn't find a spot to at least do a short full throttle in 2nd blast, I am very disappointed. And then I work on finding an errand to run later, or the next day, so I can get my fix.

Doesn't matter with "these motors" or any engine for that matter... When it's safe & clear to do so - Drive It Like You Stole It every once in awhile!
That doesn't have to be high speed, but (as in the movie) getting the rpm's out of the normal cruising around range every once in awhile..
Nothing will gunk up an engine like putt-putting around, or short little trips. The fluids/parts don't really get up to temp, condensation doesn't burn off, internal pressures & flow don't get up, etc. As my Dad used to say... "Gotta blow it out every once in awhile!"

Back in "the day" when you could joke about these things, it was called an "Italian Tuneup" :D

On my typical, round the neighborhood after work jaunt, there's a street I take that typically has zero traffic and at the end it has a right turn to right turn dedicated streetlight to a freeway on ramp that is very long and uphill. Going this way guarantees no cars in front of me or behind (not that behind matters). It also is very nice an smooth with no humps or potholes. The 347 Boss gets a nice run to 6500 rpm WOT (rev limiter is 7k) in 2nd and then shift to 3rd and coast/slow down to get on the freeway. 1 exit later I'm off the freeway again coasting around side roads.
