Happy Friday, everyone! I'm contemplating adding another fun car to my stable....a 2015+ GT350. Does anyone have any experience with them? I've owned several Mustangs and Corvettes over the years, my last being a 2017 Z06. I have my MkIV for when I need something visceral and a bit intimidating, so I'm looking to add a modern, easy-to-maintain manual shift fun car. I like the scream of the flat plane crank, but I've never driven one. Just curious about what it's like to live with one. Any years to stay away from? I've heard engine horror stories, but I suspect that's overhyped.
Thanks,
Greg

I have heard from a number of folks that the flat plane crank is not smooth in the GT350. The lack of smoothness of the reason manufacturers went to cross plane cranks. You might want to consider a late model MACH 1. They replaced the GT350 and have all the handling goodies with a cross plane crank.

I think the GT350s are really cool all the reviews and videos of them love the high reving engine going to 8-8500 rpm. My personal concern is the limit run of the engine (only like 3700 GT350s were made). How long will there be support for parts. Not sure how long you want to keep it, but my guess is we are 5 years away from parts issues.
That said we have a 2019 GT MT Convertible and love it. My wife looks forward to me pulling it out of storage every spring. I've taken it on a cross country road trip the last 4 years in a row and it is so much fun, but also comfortable. I'm sure a Mach 1 would be amazing. Even a GT with the performance package and magneride would be a ton of fun.

There were more like 25,000 GT350s made from 2015-2020, so parts should be a little less of a worry, but I hear you.

I knew I shouldn't have trusted Google AI results and dug into the results....Meh Drive a 350 and/or a Mach 1/GT wPerformance Pack and see what you like.

I remember reading somewhere that they had to redesign something like 60 different mounts throughout the car (engine/trans/etc.) to dampen all the vibrations that engine generates or the car would shake itself apart. This is the reason they never offered the flat plane engine as a crate motor.

I think that's true. Seems like I read right here on the forum that a Detroit FFR/Cobra club had some Ford engineers to one of their club meetings to talk about the Voodoo engine in an FFR, and the engineers said it would never work due to all of these enhancements added to a Mustang chassis to deal with the vibration.

Actually they were/are offered as special order. Part number FA-557-AA. Erik put a Voodoo in FFR's '35 pickup.

That was me who posted that experience. Happened in my garage workshop. The drivetrain engineers from Ford said the rigid frame, headers, among other things on our cars wouldn't hold up to the vibration from the Voodoo engine. They do sound pretty cool though. Interesting they have gone ahead and offered it as a crate.

my son had a 2016 GT350 - seriously one of the best performance vehicles I've driven... the sound, the handling, the everything...

I have driven one as well (it is my buddy's car) and it is awesome. Loved the sound of course. Very smooth, great clutch, crazy power... Really fine car.

I have never owned a GT350 but have owned 3 GT500's. Maybe doesn't have the cool engine sound but they have power!
