View Full Version : Battery Cut Off Switch Location?

Hey there guys.
I’ll be moving my battery cutoff that’s presently installed in the back wall. This relocation is needed to facilitate installation of the Breeze trunk cubby kit (thanks Mark!)
My thought is to place it in the shown location down a bit lower.

Any suggestions on this?
I’ll be replacing it with a nice billet switch in the process.

Mines in the trunk but I plan racing it at Kingdom Drags next month and they say I must have an exterior battery cut off

I put mine under the hood with the theory being another line of theft defense as I can lock the hood (if i can find the key). Doesn't stop them from just towing it away although I don't have those little tow thingies being splashed everywhere.

Mine was in the trunk on same theory as MikeBray. Later I moved the battery to the engine compartment and didn't use a switch at all.

I placed mine in the firewall straight in from the left side of the steering wheel. Mostly as a theft deterent that I can reach straight in and turn off the power and take the key if necessary.212702. If you have a front mounted battery, the cable runs to the DS frame rail up to the cut off straight across to the PS and down to the starter.

Sorry, I meant right side of the steering wheel.

What about mounting the switch inside the Breeze Cubby on the passenger side?
That way it would be out of sight, easy to reach, while also being out of the weather.
I've got mine in spot that is easy to reach but is also out of sight.
The goal was to slow down perspective thieves.

I’d like to see it. Can’t recall who on this forum but someone had a real nice billet aluminum switch. I picked one up.

Doc76, I like mine at the lower firewall above the front of the tunnel. The back of it is behind the engine and a good spot to branch wires to the starter, ignition, etc, especially since my battery’s up front.212731

Yes I’m kind of leaning that way too. Visible but not an obstruction tucked under there.

Which one did you go with that has the removable key?

I think what one uses for a disconnect switch and where it's located on the vehicle have a lot to do with the intended use.
- Anti-theft?
- Kill all the power when the vehicle is not in use?
- Kill all the power in an emergency? And what type(s) of emergency? Under hood fire? Cockpit fire? Crash?

I added mine later as I had some small draws that were taxing the battery. The anti-theft part was a secondary benefit.

Same place I put mine. It did take a bit to make sure the lever (not shown below) was at 12 o'clock when switched on.

I prefer it here under the dash. Easy to get to. Also, gives you some options under the hood for wiring.
