Gentlemen; I am somewhat disappointed in the Russ Thompson mod for directionals on my Mk 4 and am considering the standard FFR set up with toggle switches for directionals and hi/lo beams on the dash. The question I have is whether I should keep the Ididit relay installed with the RT switchgear. If so, would new switches be placed before or after the relay? Any suggestions are welcome.
I find the unit still has too much friction in the arm component and it is inconveniently located for my driving style. Thanks in advance.

The short answer is, you could eliminate the Ididit relay all together and just wire the toggle switches as they are laid out in the Ron Francis wiring diagram that came with your kit. I am curious however. What is your "driving style" and how does it affect the way you drive this car as apposed to how you drive your daily? Properly adjusted, there should be NO friction between the turn signal switch and the hub. That said, there are other options for turn signal switches.

Simply, there isn’t much room for my hand to fit between the door top and steering wheel in order to comfortably and quickly manipulate the signal lever. I rest my left arm on the door and want to try using my right hand on a dash mounted switch for directionals as an experiment. I might be completely wrong here but I need to sort this out. Maybe “friction” is not accurate, but the mechanism feels stiff to me and doesn’t have the positive “click” sensation when the left or right directional is engaged. Too fussy? Probably.
By the way today I restudied the wiring schematics involved and removed both the RT mod and the Ididit module. Using alligator clips I successfully confirmed exactly what I hoped for and just what you stated. My worry was/is that without the relay there would be too much current running through the switches and they might fail. It sounds like this is not an issue, but I will install robust toggle switches for both directionals and hi/lo beam switching. Thanks for reply.
