Looking for some advice for this pulley configuration. I have the serpentine adjusted pretty tight and I am still getting a squeal when the cooling fan is pulling amperage or when going to lock on the power steering.

I am considering adding a idler pulley on the lower bracket between the alternator and crank pulley.

It doesn't look like you have a lot of belt wrap on that water pump and crankshaft pulley. When I set up the routing of my belt, I could've set mine up like yours, in the 'double v' configuration. I was advised against it because of your exact symptom. This is how I ended up routing mine. You might need an idler pulley to make it happen, or get a different bracket setup for your alternator to raise it up and allow the belt to clear the top of the water pump pulley.

Not enough crankshaft pulley wrap.

You will never stop the belt squeal at the crank with that configuration. You need to set it up like Greg's. Remember the crank drives everything, so it need the most belt contact.

I started with the same belt configuration and an alternator bracket from Speed Doctor. The above comments are correct. The easy fix was adding an idler pulley to the alternator bracket. I used a late-1990s Chrysler idler and a few spacers/washers to get it right. If you ask for an idler for a Dodge Viper you will get the one I used, although it fits a litany of other Chryslers. I think it uses a metric bolt.

Thanks for the suggestion Jacob! I added an idler pulley and now no more belt squeal!212632
