Transmission should be here end of week. I pick engine in two weeks from local builder. Should I get the builder my bellhousing and make sure it's aligned correctly or is it that critical that I can't get it done myself. In my earlier days you just stabbed the Transmission in and drove it. Not sure with all I have invested in this I should probably get it right the first time. Has anyone done this on there own? And how did you accomplish it. Thanks for any advice

Yep, Id align it with a dial indicator. I bought a dial indicator on Amazon for $40. Only took an hour. Mine was within spec, but many are not. SST has an easy-to-understand video on how to do it.

Cobraman, I too measured the crank/flywheel centerline to bell housing runout in my shop. It is a critical spec (+/-.005 in) due to the TKX’s new input shaft bearing design. Mine ended up in spec at .00375(.0075/2) so I didn’t need offset locator pins. A dial indicator and magnetic base are all that’s required. The magnetic base attaches to the flywheel while the dial indicator measures runout on the bell housing hole. Here’s a pic of my setup and the cover of a procedure pdf on Silver Sports website, also on Summit’s site-link below. This is in addition to the video Greg mentioned.

I agree this dimension is critical. More than in the old days. My bellhousing was off so I needed to get the offset dowels. The whole procedure is a pain, especially when not in spec. the first time. Even getting your mag. base 212430setup correct is somewhat difficult with limited room to get your hands in the opening. If your guy will do at reasonable price have him do unless you are up to the challenge.

If you do it yourself, get yourself a quality dial indicator and base. Meaning, don't go to Harbor Freight. You don't have to spend a fortune, but the cheap ones typically won't give you consistent readings and you'll be going around and around forever and might still not be 100% sure of your final readings. Same goes for the offset dowels. All are not created equal.

I'm always up to the challenge and it's even better when your brother has the tools and the knowledge to do this it even makes it better. I will check out all the videos.
Thank everyone for all your help.

Thanks cv2065 I'm sure my brother has high end equipment as he just recently retired from a DOD contractor building rocket motors for 42 years. It's always good to have family’s help

Ive never seen a OEM Bellhousing be out far enough to need offset pins. The stamped scatter shields are known for needing the pins.
