View Full Version : Need recommendation for Hood Latch "unlatching"

I've driven my roadster for 10+ years, but this has been a minor annoyance since day-1.

After I latch the hood and drive a few miles, the hood-latches work themselves "open" (not completely, but enough that it bugs the hell out of me). To the point that I have to re-adjust them after every drive.

I know I can lock them with the key, that works, but what a PITA!
I also tried filing a small "V" in the latch receiving plate mounted under the body, but it doesn't really catch it well enough to hold them. My "V" is only about 1/2" wide and maybe 3/8" deep, but according to the wear on the latch surface, it looks like the receiving plate is not wide enough. (I'll try to take a photo of the notch I made next time I'm in the garage)
Before I attack it with a Dremel this time, what is the secret? Can someone post a picture of their receiving plate modification? Or is there a better solution? I want to stick with the original handles (I know they look like garage door latches, but I like them!). Please don't post the "button" latches or the like, not interested.

Thanks
Hope this helps others with this same annoyance too!

Just lock them. Why is that a PIA?
Takes 2 seconds. How often do you need to be under the hood?

Increase the tension by shortening the length of the latch. I think there's a set screw you can loosen to adjust.

There's your answer.
