A few months ago I bought a used BPE 347 that the previous owner said ran good. When I got it installed it had horrendous blow by, so I pulled it out and tore it down. I posted about this on a Facebook group for Blue Print Engine owners. When the Vice President of BPE saw my post, he offered me an excellent deal on one of their new 4 bolt main blocks, but my machinist found my block to be good, so I declined. I did have one broken piston ring land causing the blow by. When the VP heard about that he graciously offered to send me a set of the new forged pistons that they now use. Turns out that the older engines like mine used cast pistons that were prone to this type of failure. I of course said yes to the offer and today I received new pistons and rings at no charge! Wow what great customer service! I am not even the original buyer of this engine, they knew that and stood behind their product! I am now a loyal customer to BPE on all future projects.

I should be getting my 347" from them for my Mk5 any day now. They were gracious enough to give me a tour of their factory in Nebraska when I was recently passing through Kearney. I was very impressed with the operation, especially seeing every oil filter cut open after the dyno run to check for anything unusual. Four dyno chambers working at once is impressive.

Anyone know what the deposit and lead time is these days? I've submitted the question to them but haven't gotten a response (I suppose I could call...)

Big caution on that lead time quote!! I ordered my 347 in September. Quoted end of December delivery. Dec came and went, as did January. No updates. Contacted them in Feb and was told end of Feb, End of Feb came and went, no engine and no updates. Contacted them in early March. Quoted two weeks. Two weeks came and went, no updates. Told them this week that I was done doing the follow-up on their commitments and requested a call to discuss. 2 days later still no call. Received email indicating engine is almost ready for shipping. No reason to believe that either. Completely disappointed. Hope I don't have any issues with it later.

I have heard that Summit has stock of BPE engines and can ship within a few days if yours is in stock.

Oh man, sorry to hear that. I wouldn't be happy either. Way too much money on the line to have poor communication.

I think this is the way to go. Summit shows my planned LS427 long block as in stock and ready to ship tomorrow. Plus, then you get the Summit Bucks!

Another question:
Anyone know any Summit or Blueprint promo codes/sales that work when ordering an engine?
And is this for real? Free residential shipping through Summit? It's $299 with Blueprint!

Got a few answers to my own questions:
1) Blueprint runs no promos/sales
2) They will waive shipping fee if you mention Summit doesn't charge shipping
3) You can use credit card (points!) but only up to $10,000
4) $2000 deposit
5) for my engine, they have some in stock so I could get it right away

I have doubt about cast pistons in this case. They certainly are not appropriate in a 347 performance engine.

Well, I should have mentioned when buying that Summit does not charge shipping as I am being charged $399 for shipping, but that is for engine/tranny combo.

That's too bad
FWIW, Summit does charge shipping on transmissions. $130 for me for a T56.
