Hey guys,

Now that I'm officially retired and my new shop is pretty much done, I'm seriously thinking about building a Coupe. I'm torn on whether to wait and see what the 30th Anniversary kits may offer vs. just moving forward with what I have in my head right now that will not use some of the kit parts anyway (wheels, seats, gauges, wiring harness, e-brake).

I'm thinking of the following:

Complete kit
Aluminator 5.2 XS engine
TKX Trans
IRS
Wilwood Brakes (red)

I want to do a very modern version of the car, so considering:
Infinity Box wiring
Push-button start
Dakota Digital gauges: https://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=919/category_id=69/mode=prod/prd919.htm
TPMS
Rearview camera mirror
LED lighting
Electric e-brake
Corbeau Trailcat seats: https://corbeau.com/products/trailcat
Custom wheels: https://agluxurywheels.com/agl59.html
Dark gray metallic paint - no stripes

Stay tuned for more to come!

Let us know when you decide.
The last Coupe that came to a club member had about 10 hands on deck to unload.
Looking forward to meeting you in person/

Kevin,

I saw that on the club's forum. I'm still chasing an intermittent stall issue on my MK4, so I haven't had much time on the road with it lately, but may have resolved it last week -- time will tell. I'm thinking seriously about doing an open house garage party later this summer for the club.

Just goofing around, here is what the car might look like in the color I am thinking of with the wheels I am looking at.

Dave - I retired last year and had every intention of building a Cobra. However, when I sat down last fall to really get my head around it I somehow ended up deciding on the coupe. I know you have built a very nice Cobra and think you would enjoy the coupe. Your build ideas look great and I look forward to seeing what you land on. If I had to guess, the 30th Anniversary isn't going to be functionally different but probably come with alternate powder coat and other sort of "color related" options.

If I could provide one piece of advice I would tell you to skip the FF powder coat and take the time to grind welds and clean things up and then powdercoat in whatever color you choose. Good luck with your choices if you move forward and I look forward to watching.

One suggestion: use a license plate frame camera with integrated IR LED illumination (and active parking lines are nice too). I used one from United Pacific, but they are available many places. The primary advantages are that the image is not distorted by the rear window and the IR mode works great at night or in the rain.

Your new build sounds fantastic, and should be a lot of fun to assemble.

Cheers,

Hard to say what they will make available for the 30th. I guess it depends on how bad you want to get started. I second Tim's advice on powder coating it yourself. I did it and have zero regrets.

At first look, the intake on the Aluminator seems too tall. But apparently it's been done: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/5-2l-aluminator-powered-factory-five-racing-daytona-coupe-5-speed/

Oh, and here:

Come on in, the water's fine! We love our Coupe. I might have said that a few times. We have a Gen 3 Coyote in ours with a T-56 and it's a great combination. The Aluminator 5.2 XS engine should be awesome. I just might have one (NIB) sitting in the corner of my workshop waiting for my next project.

Papa Dave, if your going to change a bunch of parts out anyways, no sense waiting for the 30th anniversary edtion. FF always addes in stuff to those builds and the price gets higher. You can get a Coupe today ON SALE!!!! Save yourself a little upfront, you know your gonna spend it later!!

Hey Paul,

I'll be reviewing your Coupe build thread for ideas. I just hope if I do one that I get close to your build quality.

My Coupe build is five years legal. Hard to believe. And a low number (59) compared to what they're shipping now. There have been a few changes that I've seen in other build threads. Most of what I did should still apply. But still lots of ideas FWIW. Biggest gotcha is the seats I picked out don't fit very well any more. Apparently Corbeau changed them. I like the seats you linked to. Hope those will fit. Also looked at the Dakota Digital gauges. Those look nice. I'm interested in what Factory Five comes up with for the 30th Anniversary models.

Sorry, no. I'm waiting to see what's announced like most everyone else. Can't make it to the Open House in June (granddaughter wedding) to see in person but supposed to be announcements before then.

Now that FFR has announced what will be included in the 30th anniversary Coupe kit, I decided to just order a regular kit that better aligns with what I am looking to build. I placed my order yesterday!

Here is a rundown of what I ordered:

Complete kit:
- Coated Chassis
- Body Cutouts
- IRS
- Coyote mounts
- Red Wilwood front/rear brakes
- Coyote with T56 drive shaft
- FFR polished exhaust
- Side windows
- Hydraulic clutch kit
- Power steering kit (Coyote)
- Coyote install kit
- Heater/defroster and A/C kit for Coyote
- Gauge delete
- Seat delete

The plan is still to go with an Aluminator 5.2 XS with Tremec T56 for the drive train along with the other items I mentioned in my initial post.

Nice!!! You’re going to love it. Finally had our Coupe out for the first time this season. Never disappoints.
