I am interested in getting a set of chaps to protect my rear fenders. I have seen pictures of vinyl ones that appear to attach with velcro. I have also seen carbon fiber, stainless and 3M clear adhesive. Can anyone tell me their preference and where I can get them?

My car is unpainted yet, so I haven't installed any. Hard to say which of them is best, but I bought a set of the clear 3M ones from a member on here, (perhaps he will pipe up) and a set of carbon fiber ones from a member on the FFCars forum. I plan to put each of them on with just some tape, and look to see which I like best. Nice thing about the 3M ones are they are easy to remove if needed. The carbon fiber has an adhesive, so that could be an issue.

The vinyl/velcro type have to be removed for washing of course, but I also worry about any wind chafing of the paint.

I can tell you that the vinyl ones still allow paint chips/dents an you do have to change them from time to time, I use the carbon fiber vinyl ones on my challenge car and they get pretty beat after a season on the track but still do a good job, not sure I would trust the velcro ones on the track.

If you are talking about spats, I have matte black vinyl on mine. Pretty durable and replaceable if they get chipped up. I made them myself though..

I used the black FFR Carbon Fiber ones. They look good, and after five years and 5,000 miles they look brand new, and I do a lot of dirt/gravel road driving. I just keep them clean and use a clear acrylic wax on them whenever I detail the car.

Hey Mike, got your PM and got back to you. Like my ad says, the spats are clear static cling. They come off easily for when you are detailing your car and go back on just as easily. $15 gets a set delivered to your door and in case you want a spare set, $25 will get you them. Any one else interested, click on my banner below and I'll get back to you.
