Good evening, folks. I just upgraded my Wilwoods on my MkIV Roadster to their electric parking brake system. As a result, I have these two manual parking brake calipers available for sale. They have 2 miles on them (go-karted in my neighborhood), and I never engaged the park brake. Make me an offer...just want to get them in the hands of someone who can use them. Shipping from 66086 in two Wilwood caliper boxes. Send me a PM.

Thanks!

Greg

Why is everyone getting rid of their parking brakes?

I got rid of the standard parking brake setup, because I hate how the cables are run, and I hate the handle on the side of the tranny tunnel. In my first build, I'd get in the car, strap in, only to realize I forgot to release the parking brake. I'd then have to unbuckle, reach over, release, then rebuckle. I like the idea of a simple switch on the dash. The e-stopp is popular, the mechanism is huge, and it still uses cables. The Wilwood setup, while pricey, gets rid of all that.

I don't know why I installed the standard setup in the first place. I ripped it all out, and had to pull off my carpet, patch the hole in the tranny tunnel, and recarpet. I think I was trying to avoid a $1200 Wilwood solution. I caved!

Went electric, The best and most functional bling on the kit is that Wilwood E-brake set up!

Same, I put and electric parking break it I still used the Wilwood parking caliper. I didn't realize the other options used a different caliper. Like you said, I would get fully buckled in then forget the brake was on (and my key was still in my pocket).

Yep, the Wilwood electric park brake has it's own motor attached directly to the caliper, so there's no e-brake cables; just wiring and a control module I put behind the dash. Pretty elegant solution.

When I built mine I looked at these before going with the e-stopp because they weren't available for the 3link... I assume all of you have IRS?

Hi, I also went with the Wilwood electric parking brake. It’s expensive but I believe it’s worth it. No brake handle and more room for the passenger.

If anyone is interested, I’ll consider offers on the manual Wilwood caliper which are also new, just send me a PM.

I like that solution. Any idea if that caliper you're using would fit with 15" wheels? Do you have a part number for it? Right now the caliper I'm using is the 120-13890 and it fits with the brackets supplied by Gordon Levy.

I eliminated the traditional parking brake from my build at the beginning and am using a built in manual valve plumbed into the rear brake lines to hold pressure in the rear brakes but I'm not sure if it will pass my state inspection. If it doesn't this would be a great backup option.

Gordon Levy could tell you if it will fit. Kansas's inspection was very simple when I did my MkIII. All they did was verify that the chassis number on the MSO matched what was stamped on the frame. Thats it. Certainly no checking of headlights, turn signals, emergency brakes, etc.

*EDIT* Forgot...you're on the Missouri side...

Yeah, Missouri side...facing inspection and registration are in my near future. If you have a part number for the caliper I can compare dimensions and see if it would work...

I bought it through Gordon Levy, and it's a retrofit for my Wilwood setup. The invoice didn't have a part number on it, but I think it's 140-15978-BK

Curiosity question for those who have a finished car in use... do you find that you use the parking brake often? I ask because on all of the standard shift vehicles I've owned over the years I rarely used the parking brake. Seems like I always put them in a low gear when parking and only used the brake if on a scary incline, working under it, etc.

And then when I needed it, it was froze up!

I’ve never used my parking brake. Just leave in gear. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Although, ironically, when I built the car I did move my handle to a reachable position. :)

I've already used mine several times. When I have the car in the driveway, idling up to temp to check for leaks, I need the park brake engaged to keep the car from gently rolling down the driveway.

Well, I "just" installed a Lokar brake handle, on my completed FFR Roadster ( 2005 ) and decided late last year to add a parking brake. I had NO IDEA Wilwood had this new (to me anyway) E-brake and like you, regardless of cost, it would of been SO MUCH easier than the exercise of drilling out some 23 rivets, making a custom tunnel top, so I wouldn't have to drill out the rivets if ever I needed to do work on the shifter mechanism or the Lokar cabling. I can just unbolt 6 bolts and tops comes off. BUT... this Wilwood E-brake would of have been done in a few days at most with much of the work being the wiring but at least no tunnel removal!!!! Oh, and redoing the carpet would of not been required.

*sigh* Well, I'm over 1/2 way through so I'm just going to do it and hope I don't regret it. But honestly, if I ever had to do it over in the future, it'll be the Wilwood E-brake route.
