It is nice to see Crane is back & shipping new stuff!!!
Is it the same Crane Company or were they bought out?

They filed for bankruptcy and never recovered. Everything was sold off and eventually new owners picked up the pieces. First it was just the ignition stuff shipping, then slowly old cam profiles and then they started doing custom grinds again. Chase Knight, long time Crane R&D guy is back with the new company.

Maybe the company they bought stuff from got a bunch of their shipping tape cheap. :)

Is it true that they did not have enough capital to get started and buy cam blanks, so the first few orders going out were actually made from maple and white oak dowels.

Ours were made from pine! No just kidding.
