Hoping someone can help with a Gen 3 Coyote issue. Our Gen 3 Coyote is running great...no issues most of the time. But then randomly and there's no rhyme or reason to it, we suddenly lose power. It may not happen for multiple trips, then it does. We don't lose power to the point where you need to pull over and the power comes back when you hit the accelerator, but it seems like it's starved for air. Like the throttle body is closing. Again, it's an intermittent problem. The weather doesn't matter. The engine temp doesn't matter. I've taken it to the Ford service in the area and had them out an analyzer on it. They can't replicate the condition without taking it out numerous times and at 200 buck an hour, that's not an option. Any thoughts? Has anyone else had a similar problem?

This is a Gen 3 Coyote crate in a Roadster with a Ford Performance control pack? Are you running a custom tune? Just want to confirm because these responses may not apply if not. Did the Ford dealer scan the ODB2 for codes? If not, and you don't have a scanner, good add to your toolbox. A simple one that reads and can reset codes is relatively cheap. My expectation is that it would throw a code if it was engine or electronics related. Can't say that for sure, but that's my hopefully reasonable guess. If no codes, my thought goes to the fuel pump. What are the details there? Also, how much fuel in the tank? If at or near the bottom, could be starving. Are you positive the pressure setting on the regulator is at the 65 PSI recommended by Ford Performance. Could be air as you suggested, but I'd start with fuel. If it's a crate motor with a control pack, I'm not sure your average Ford dealer would be the best to troubleshoot. May take a custom tuner with specific experience.

Make sure your gas tank is vented.
You need a minimum of 11 inches from the MAF sensor and the throttle body.

I fought similar issues and it was fuel system related. More specifically, the wires inside my pump/pickup hanger were not terminated well and the pump would occasionally lose power.

Can you share a bit about your fuel system: pump, hanger, lines, regulator, pressure, etc.

I had a customer with the same issue. I messed with it for hours with no resolution. Took it to my brother and he put a scan tool on it and could not find anything wrong. He disconnected the battery for some reason and the problem went away and never happened again. This was a couple years ago. Customer drives it all the time.

Thanks for the response. I thought it might be fuel related too, but it feels more like its starving for air, not gas. The reason I came to this conclusion is that when it happens and I let off of the accelerator, the car bogs, not when I'm on the gas such as you would find where there's an issue with a fuel filter or fuel pump. I had over a half tank of gas when it happened the last time. We've had it on the track at Road America several times now. It doesn't happen when cornering or braking, sometimes it just happens on the straights too? The Ford shop we took it to is a Ford Performance shop that has their own race cars and a race team. They can do a custom tune on it on their dyno, but I wanted to track the problem on it before I spend 1,500.00 on a custom tune. I'm picking up the car from them tomorrow and I'm going to try a couple of suggestions that I got from the Facebook Factory 5 builder page. One person suggested resetting the computer by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. They said they had the same issue and that took care of it. Another thing I want to follow up on is the hoses to the heater. They go right over the IMR valve that controls the flow of air into the intake manifold. He said that the IMR valves can be affected by heat...well the heater hose is right on top of the controller for those valves. I'm going to try putting a heat wrap around the hoses first and then fabricate a bracket to hold the hoses off of the controller. Crossing my finger that one of these things does the trick. Really appreciate the conversation and the ideas!

I'm going to try this tomorrow when I pick up the car. Crossing my fingers that this does the trick! Will let you know what I find out! Thanks!

Tank is properly vented and we have at least 12 inches from the PAF sensor to the throttle body...
