With the 302-based platforms in our Mk4’s, what’s the recommended shifter position (mid or rear)?

I have mine at the middle, not mid position and like the feel. No cost option by just turning/flipping the mount. I did shorten the shifter handle supplied by FFR. This takes a little welding of the shifter but easy for me and weld covered by boot. Best thing is you can try both positions easy. old pic attached. Enjoy.

Personal preference, I did the midshift option and used a straight 5.5" shift handle. I did have to cut one brace.

I left mine alone and really like it.

Mine is in the stock position with the FFR-supplied lever. I actually find it very comfortable to drive with.

Cool that looks pretty close to the T5 spot I have right now.
When you say “at the middle, not mid position” am a you clarify?
When I say mid position I mean the center position on the tranny (as in front, mid and rear shifter spots)
Thanks

So it looks like Waterman, Robmccon, Mike.Bray that’s rear position on the tranny tail.
Thanks guys

When you say stock position can you confirm its the rear shifter position on the tranny tail?

Yes, look at my picture. It's the rear position. Mike's is in that position, as well. That's how the TKX comes by default, or 'stock'.

Awesome thanks for confirming!

Mine is in rear position, with stock shifter reaching forward. I like it but have only used it in go-cart driving so far. So far it seems very comfortable and easy reach. Also, an unexpected surprise for me...the TKX has to be the smoothest-shifting tranny I've ever personally had in a car. It is my only aftermarket tranny, too, though.

I did a mid-shift kit from Forte with a 6" shifter. I had it in the stock position in my last build, although wasn't terrible, I always felt a little cramped and the shifter too tall. Looks good here and I didn't have to cut the cross brace. Still plenty of room for cup holders and BT amp remote.

I went with the mid shift position. I cut the diagonal brace out and re-welded it in a different position. I'm 6'2" and have the seat back as far as I can get it. I made my own shifter that installs on the TKX. It fits me perfectly. The helicopter cyclic handle fits my hand like a glove and makes for very quick shifts.

Nice seats. That’s in the cards too. Mine are presently the run of the mill FFR kit seats. I’d say they are hands down the most uncomfortable seats have have ever sat in although I have a bad back and need all the lumbar I can get.

I thought the same thing when I simply had them sitting on the cockpit floor. After I purchased the Breeze kit that elevates the front edge of the seat and comes with some thin board to add support under the seat cushion, they seem bearable. Still, I'll probably upgrade the seats at some point.

Good to know thanks for the heads up.
I didn’t know that was a thing. Might try the kit before shelling out for new seats.

You can go with the Breeze seat adapter kit or make your own using the FFR seat track adjuster. I sat in the seat without the mods and hated it, after the mods its actually quite comfortable.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share this. I will absolutely try this mod. It’ll probably make a big difference.
Looks like you raised the back ~1/2” and front maybe 1.5”.
Sound about right?

Doc, yes, exactly. You can see I welded nuts inside the vertical supports, that 1/2" on the back allowed for that. You can even raise the fronts higher if it is comfortable for you. I mocked up the tilt and hieght with blocks of wood before I made the risers.
