Howdy folks. Been a while since I posted. The car has been sitting patiently waiting for me to take it out on the road. Oregon in February is wet and cold....very wet and cold. Today was 65' sunny and no wind. I managed to get 50 miles on the car. First was a 10 mile round trip to the nearest gas station. Later in the day when the chief came home we took it over to see Lance (aka F500guy) to check out his mostly finished Cobra. Had a great visit.
After a fiddely start all went well. I had to re-adjust the idle mixture, timing and choke setting before I was happy with it. More on that later. The car drove great. The steering was tight, did not wander at all. She tracked true. The front end stayed right where I put it. I held the wheel with a feather light touch and she stayed right where I pointed her. Very pleased with the E-power steering. I did not have to touch the dial at all. It was at the lowest setting. The suspesion was exactly as I'd hoped. A bit stiffer than my 2018 Mustang GT with the Pedders extreme racing suspension system, but that was what I was hoping for. The cornering was a dream she held the curves tight with no understeer. One should note, this was the first real outing so I did not push it very hard.
The shifter position was perfect. The bottom of my hand was a meer 3" above the tunnel cover. This made for very quick and short shifts. Much better than the Mustang. The heavy clutch will take some some getting used to. The Mustang has a hydralic clutch. The Cobra clutch is very much like my old 73 F-250. Its the kind of clutch I grew up on. I'll just have to re-learn the feel.
The engine sounded great and has way more power than I'll use for quite some time. We might be looking for an intercom system for any long drives to the coast. Its kinda loud!
The only flaw on the trip was as I was backing back into the shop. I pulled to too hard on the e-brake and something let go!. I'll find out what tomorrow. I'm calling this a big win. In the morning I'll check all the fluid levels and take a hand full of wrenches to check every bolt I can get my hands on. I'm thrilled with the first real drive. (50 miles)
So all in all I'm calling this a win. Sorry folks, no Go-Pro. Its a boomer thing!
