I wanted something I could see in daylight so I got a Garmin Zumo XT-2 motorcycle GPS. It's great! You can see it in bright sunlight and the touchscreen works with gloves on. It's got lots of features like "adventure routing" where it plans a trip for you on twisty roads. The special features are one thing, but the main event is that I can see it and work it with any kind of gloves on.

Today I added a BC-50 backup camera. I've really been needing this for backing out of the driveway when my wife doesn't park far enough over. Wish I'd done it a while ago. I even used it to back into the garage, a first for me.

It sure is a cosy space, I will never complain about lack of space in my garage again! you have done well.

Cheers,

Nige

Howdy Nige,

I built an airplane in there. If you think it looks crowded now...

When we bought the house, we made a deal - the garden is hers and the garage is off limits for her car or clutter.

Ed,
I really like the idea of the motorcycle GPS for all of the reasons you outline. I'm guessing that this is a bit more weather resistant than the standard auto units as well.
Aside from that I am really impressed with your version of 20# in a 5# sack garage. I thought I had a bunch of cool stuff, wow.

These photos look familiar, it could be an 818 thing.

That' some impressive clutter you got going there J R. ;) I'd like to see how that V-6 818 turns out.

I hope weather resistance doesn't enter into it. I don't have wipers. Talking about too much in a 5# sack, my nephew (the one who isn't building an 818) is building an airplane in his one car garage! I was just over there helping him rivet the other day and it's pretty crowded in there. He talked his wife into letting him store the finished wing and tail in his den and all it cost him was a new set of furniture for the living room. Reminds me of when I wanted to buy my aircraft engine and my wife said "Can we do the kitchen first?" There's only one possible answer to that kind of question. :p

Ed, in my defense/confession there are three cars going on in there, plus one in the hole.
I am working the fuel injection just now with the last two frame tubes and the coil-over mounts coming up next. No heater out there but WI weather is improving.
FWIW the subframe has six mounts to chassis, and the engine has two mounts to subframe and three to chassis.

I inserted three photos this AM with "edit" now I am locked out again. WT? Dave

No defense or confessions necessary. I know how projects are. Been there, still there. I'm trying to get my '72 IH 1110 truck going after 30 years, working on my Triumph, my 818, and my RV-6. The house needs paint.....

Don't know about photos, I've been posting them straight from my phone through USB-C to the computer. Can only do one at a time, then have to go back and repeat the process before hitting post reply. Could that be what's going on with yours - more than one at a time?

This is a funny thread about "Garage Guys" :)

Even though my pace on my Roadster isn't what I'd originally hoped...most of my other routine "chores" are not getting much action

Maybe when I finish it, I'll get back to the more mundane things :)

Back on message...

I'm planning to use my Motorcycle Zumo in my Roadster, too. I'll use a rubber ball RAM mount on the dashpanel, and I've set aside a "period correct" Cigarette lighter power source to use on the GPS

Howdy Craig,

The Zumo comes with a motorcycle mount which I adapted to my center console with a ball mount. I used the included hardwire setup. Comes on when I insert my key and shuts off (after checking for updates) when I pull it. For parking, I un-clip it from the mount and hide it. If you just plug into a USB it won't even stay lit. Initial charging of the battery I expect. The optional automotive mount kit comes with a high current cig lighter plug which is pretty bulky. I don't usually bother to move it to my truck. I just use my phone there and my wife's car has android auto.

Yipes! I need to clean it.

Ed

This one is the Zumo XT-2. Previous Zumo versions had a slightly different mount and might not power up right. The contacts are arranged differently.

I cleaned up my shop one time. It took me 3 weeks to find things again. I’ll let the final cleanup go for the next owner.

Cleaning the garage is fraught. It's also really hard to do. It seems so overwhelming that it's hard to start and hard to keep after it. I typically don't clean benches until I can't find something and then put stuff away until I find what I was looking for and get back to the task at hand. I once calculated that I spent 75% of my shop time looking for a 6" scale. So I bought a bunch of them - and they're still hard to find!
