So after getting everything in the front end of my Mk4 tightened down several weeks ago, something has me scratching my head....
I'm 95% sure I have everything in the front end installed correctly. Setup is with Ford power steering, standard FFR front upper control arms. FFR lower control arms, FFR spindles etc (yes, I know that the FFR spindles go on opposite sides than how they are marked - and they are installed that way). I cut the "rearward" sides of the upper control arms as most others have with this setup, anticipating that this would be needed to achieve enough camber etc. I set the UCA's per the instructions from FFR (same as I have done with a prior build)
HOWEVER
when I had it all together in the air, I looked at it and said.... huh, that's a lot of negative camber! I set it down (no motor in it yet) and expected the wheels to come much more "upright" than they did. Then I adjusted the UCA's out, a LOT - like 50% of the distance of the threaded connection, and it's still not really all that close to "plumb" upright. I realize that total upright wouldn't be correct, but they're like 3" or more from it via a
Thoughts -
I'm assuming that all of the UCA's from FFR are the same, so I don't THINK it's possible to have the wrong ones. That and the fact that the measurements are the same as what FFR has dictated makes me thing that's not the issue.
The LCA were also ordered from FFR, I know that there are a couple of versions of these, but I'm pretty sure I have the correct ones (12066, 15" - Standard width LCA's for use with the FFR front spindle set - 14507) I've measured the LCA's just to be certain, and They are indeed 15".
I have them mounted in the lower, outboard mounting holes as instructions show, and many other pics from build thread show as well.
Questions:
Is everything correct, and I'm just over thinking it? (That's been known to happen)
Do I have incorrect parts, or is something installed incorrectly? The lower control arms I think are the most likely failure point. Either I have them installed in the wrong holes, or I have the incorrect LCAs?
