Need some more information on how to install Hopkins 4 flat converter. I have tested the complete system and it works perfect other than the tail lights don't work properly as a result of not having this converter installed yet. My question is how. I have found several comments and some diagrams on this fourm but they are very old and that information doesn't correspond to the wiring colors used in my wiring harness. I have ohmed each of the corresponding taillight wires verifying there location and colors for each function but there are 5 wires on one side and 4 on the other side on converter which I have figured out how 4 wires
on each side connect (via connector) but the red wire not sure? The manual nor the converter instructions give much detail Can anyone point me in the right direction.

I'll take a stab at this since I'm going to be installing it this week.
The directions mention a car side and trailer side. Well, the unit does not have that labeled. What they do have labeled are the individual wires. I'm going to assume the side with the red wire (brake) is the car side. Your wiring harness should wire into this. The other side with only white, brown, yellow and green wires should be wired to the taillights. The red wire on the car side will trigger the left and right turn signals (yellow and green wires) at the same time to give you brake lights. Plus, if you are signaling, it will allow the blinker to work as well as the brake light for the opposite side.
Anyone care to check my work? Did I get it right?

the flat four connector has the wiring locations molded into the case.

The side with the red wire is car side because you have the brake input, but you don’t have a brake output because the trailer converter figures that out for you
