Hello,
I have begun preliminary body work on my MkIV roadster, and was hoping for some feedback from those with completed cars with some time on them. I was mocking up the hood attachment parts (hinges and brackets), and realized the hood bracket is attached using 4 3/16" rivets? I cant see down into the pre-drilled holes yet because I haven't cleaned them up, but is there anything substantial for the rivets to "hold onto", like a layer of metal? Is it all just fiberglass? I'm concerned that this will be a weak connection and won't hold up over time.
Should I be concerned, and should I consider a different way to attach the brackets to the hood?
Thanks for your guidance!
Jason

There's metal under the glass and as long as the proper rivet length is used (1/2") they hold fine.

Thousands have been built without issues. yours won't be any different

In my case the holes that were predrilled at FF to attach the hood were not lined up very well so I had to re drill to have more adjustability. Not saying you'll have this issue but just my experience.

If you're super concerned, you can always bond the brackets to the fiberglass using West marine epoxy. I had to do that (for reasons I won't go into), and the epoxy has held up for over a year with no apparent degradation.

2 of the mounting holes on mine were ok, but 2 on each side i had to re drill. Wasnt an issue and seems solid with the long rivets.

Thanks everybody! I figured I was being a little overly concerned. Message received. Build on...
