Is it really necessary to put on the windshield before fitting and aligning the doors? We have a friend who built two, never did and had no problems.
Thanks

No, not necessary, it has nothing to do with door fitment

I disagree. It all works together. I rough install all the big parts then start fine tuning everything. The windshield can press down on the body causing to bulge out a bit on the sides and changing the way the doors fit.

I agree with Mike that the windsheild should be in place before fitting the doors. Dis one without the windsheild and had a ***** time getting the drivers door to fit correctly afterward. Had to remove door, redo jamb, door and repaint.

I have never had the windshield alter the shape enough to be an issue, but it's not a big deal to have it in place.

I would recommend putting in the mud flaps, debris shield aluminum with bulb seal, at least with clecos. I had my doors dialed in but waited to put those parts in until after it was painted. It pushed the body out from where i had it just enough on the drivers side to warrant a minor adjustment of the hinge.
