Hello All,
With my roadster now painted and of course I can't leave it alone what is everone using for fender mats when working in the engine bay?

For my MkIII, I bought fender mats from Summit...their house brand. They worked just fine. I did two head gasket swaps on my MkIII with them, and never got a scratch.

My wife bought me a couple of these and they seem good.

I also have these for when I pulled my engine.

I use this to cover my fender and keep it behind the passenger seat when I'm not using it.
Though it is not padded, it does protect the paint on the fender when I'm leaning over it

I bought a couple of cheap ones at Harbor Freight for my cylinder head swap. They have magnets that are supposed to stick to the inside edge of the engine bay, but there's not a good place for them to grab on my MkIV. Other than constantly having to reposition them, they served their purpose.

In addition to the fender mats, this will keep tools and hardware in one place without scratching your paint or air cleaner. Plus the soft rubber/plastic grips whatever surface it's on - won't slide off. From Harbor Freight.

Bathroom floor rug. Soft on one side, grip on the other. Cheap too :p

The bathroom rugs work well. I used them for a while then got some Cobra fender covers from summit. I like them both.
