Like most I'm sure, during the winter months I look forward to making changes/improvements to my car. This is one I completed last month.
When I finished my car two summers ago, I made a radiator grille out of perforated steel that mounted to opening in the body (like the one offered by Breeze). I liked it, but missed the "open mouth" look. I decided to make a hybrid out of fiberglass and the same perforated steel. Now I feel I've gotten the best of both worlds. Great radiator protection and I got my "open mouth" look back.
I'm sorry for the duplicate post, but I could not get images to load using my laptop-- had to do it from my phone and create a new post.

Oh an please ignore all of the dust and water mist marks all over the hood of the car... probably should have atleast wiped it down before the photo.... :)

Could we get a pic of it off the car? That way I'd have a better idea what you built.
I'm asking for ideas because I'm gonna do the same thing shortly.

Great upgrade on your inlet screen. Looks really sharp! I made one that attaches to the top and bottom of the radiator and holds in a honeycomb filter to boot. Well done. Oh....and I really enjoyed your You Tube vids too!

Mine has held up for 8 or 9 years but took a different approach. Like AA ron I wanted to preserve the open look of the air intake but protect the radiator from damage. Searched around & found that dirt track racers use a thick Nomex honeycomb to protect theirs.

Material cuts easy when matched to a template of the radiator face. Its an ugly tan but sprayed black with flat heat resistant paint its invisible. Best thing outside of the paint the material is about $30.00.

Its held in place with 4 zip fasteners.

Could you please share your link for $30 Nomex Honeycomb? The cheapest I could find a piece large enough to cover my radiator is over $100

Is Nomex known by any other names? Tring to find an Australian source and not getting anywhere.

How'd you mount it? I have a piece of this stuff, but haven't gotten to that part of the build yet.
Thanks

I just cut mine to fit and stuffed it in there. it's not going anywhere.
you can also google radiator zip ties. These pass through the radiator fins and will hold it secure.

It will fit as tight as you cut it. I used the radiator ZIP ties but I expect it would be fine without them. They were only a few dollars extra when I bought the Nomex so it seemed like a good idea. Got it from a dirt track supplier.

I got the screen and the nomex from Summit. I made a bracket that attaches to the upper and lower radiator flanges and holds both the screen and nomex in place. Very clean installation.

Bingo! I'm not sure why I didn't think Summit would stock nomex. I have an account with them. Easy peasy. Thanks, guys.

You want to block that big opening at the top to force all the air through the radiator. Breeze sells a part to do the job

Thanks for the tip. Those pics were just the filter and screen. I got the Breeze upper filler plate. I did not use it as my attachment called for a different fastner spacing. But I copied it and drilled to match my installation.

That is exactly what I would like to do on my build, any way you could give some pointers or a how to with that grill or maybe where that mesh came from?

Mike, Not sure who your asking, but if it was for me (Rebostar), You can find the entire process in my build thread. The nomex honeycomb and screen came from Summit Racing.
Good luck, and happy trails.
