Question: How tight should the last section of the upper steering Colum be? even before I put in the two spring washers it is very tight, I don't want to keep pounding on it if its not right.

If you have to pound on it, that's not good. Ask me how I know. It's supposed to be able to collapse in the event of an accident. You might want to pull it and use some emery cloth to smooth down the shaft of any burrs, etc. so it slides in and out easily. I put a very light coat of oil on it so it doesn't corrode while I'm building. Florida humidity is tough with the rust. Might want to wait on the spring washers until you are putting it in for the last time.

Mine required quite a bit of polishing and fitting before I was happy with it. Get it to enter smoothly an inch, find the tight spot and smooth it down. Keep repeating. It needs to fit tight, but still telescope in a bad crash.

Thanks, seems this took most of my time tonight to get done :( but at least it is moving now, I may do just a bit more tomorrow just to be safe. :)

Don’t go over board with clearancing. Take to much off and you may end up with unwanted play.
