Hi,
I dropped in my 302/T5 today. It all went really well except when it came time to install the A-frame transmission mount and the actual "Energy" trans mount. The hardware was not in the box with the A-frame, I did have 3/8 x 1" socket heads and 1/2" x 1.25 bolts and locking nuts. Both were a tight fit and had to clearance the 3/8" holes with a 3/8 drill. Not a big deal but thought I should mention in case it helps with troubleshooting.
The real problem is I cannot get the 2 bolts that secure the trans mount to the A-frame (from the bottom), they seem to be off about 1/4 - 3/8" off. I tried rotating the mount 180* with little help. The motor mounts are still loose but in their proper locations, and the alignment pins seem to be in the chassis pads.
Also, there's a mounting tab just to the behind the fill plug that is hitting against the e-brake mount welded to the frame in the tunnel (top/forward mount). I assume I could cut the tab off the trans???
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you post a picture of what you are talking about. I installed a 302 with T5 and it went in with none of the issues you are mentioning.

The tab I think you’re talking about I had to cut off, if you mean the one on back by the tail. This was mine.

Same experience with the tab. Sawed it off after seeing forum posts.

Do you have this adapter?

That looks like the one, I didn’t want to remove it and find out I needed it at some point. Thank you

I do, it states for Coyote on the drawing so I wasn’t going to use it. I also didn’t have the spacers shown in the drawing so again assumed coyote only???

I have used it on 302w and 351w with T5 trans. No spacers, just bolt it on.
I think it will line you up and yes cut the tab!

Thank you, the Energy trans mount has a plate that goes between the trans and mount, I replace the plate with the bracket, correct? I don’t use all three pieces, right?

I use a stock mount which it moves back in the slots. I would assume you still use the Energy mount and plate.

I am using the FFR supplied mount. The instructions call for a "preload plate" however, the Coyote adapter doesn't show the preload plate. I was concerned if I didn't use the preload plate it would be an issue and using it with the Coyote adapter would raise the transmission too high?

I had the same issue. With the engine slightly raised with your crane, trans slightly raised with your jack, can you have someone pull the tail shaft over towards the drivers side just a bit and hold it while you drop the engine back down? This might help get the holes aligned.

Good grief, stick a screwdriver or pry bar in there and move it over. How simple is that?

Thanks for the suggestion. I really don't have a left-right situation but a back and forth. See images...207848207849

Gotta agree with Rich on this one. I had a similar alignment issue. I simply left the motor mounts loose, and used a ratchet strap on the tail of the tranny, with the other end connected to the door frame, and drew it into alignment. Easy peasie. Don't overthink it.
***Edit*** I see now what you're describing...the tranny needs to move backward, toward the back of the car. I'd loosen all my motor mount bolts (both block to mount and mount to frame, install the tranny mount to the tranny finger tight, and then still use a ratchet strap on the tranny, connected to the frame in the rear somewhere, and draw it backward. Once the tranny mount is aligned, throw the bolts through the a-frame into it, then draw everything up. You may not even need to draw the tranny toward the rear. With enough slop in all your bolts, you might get it done.

Thanks Greg, all mounts are currently lose, I may double check the bolts to the block. I like your suggestion on the ratchet straps (even though I hate, hate, hate my ratchet straps), I'll give that a shot. I am really only ~1/4" off.

It looks like you have your tranny mount bolted to the a-frame, yes? I'd bolt it to the tranny first, rather than trying to align the tranny with the mount already installed on the a-frame.

Got it to work (line up). took everything lose, mounted to the transmission first, then placed the a-frame back in (clearance all a-frame holes) did not tighten anything and was able to get the hole to the trans mount to line up with the a-frame.
Now I can't seem to get the drive shaft in, what a PITA. Both have 28 splines, the drive shaft actually has 27 with a gap. Is there a secret I should know? IRS rear. 207855

Well that five minute break seemed to do the trick. Drive shaft in.

Thanks, appreciate your help. JMD also helped with advice on mounting to the transmission first (as you suggested as well).
