Well I'm still out of service after a double knee replacement but seeing as I figure I'm about halfway to the go-kart stage I thought I would do a halftime report and talk about what I did right and what I might do differently. This might be a good video to watch before you start.

The episode goes live Saturday morning but this link should get you there: https://youtu.be/4EE52zjffhU

Let me know what you think.

Hey Jim, Ive enjoyed following along with your build videos. YouTube is a bit of a steep learning curve, as you mentioned in your video, and I have some feedback/guidance for you.

In an overly simplistic explaination, YouTube's algorithm works based on a few factors - all bundled under the term "engagement". This includes things like view count, view duration and ratings...but it also includes comments and conversations. The more comments, the more engaged the viewers are, and the more YouTube will promote your videos to viewers. Your newest video has these comments turned off. Additionally, your video exported with ~20 mins of blank screen - this is usually caused in editing when you dont cut the end off the timeline before rendering.

The best part is that both of these issues are easy to resolve in YTStudio, without having to delete and reupload the video.

1) Trim Video - In your YT account, click studio, then your video. On the left column, you will see a menu option for "Editor". From there, you can "trim & cut" your uploaded video - removing the black screen after your video ends.
2) Enable Comments - In the same area of YT Studio, you will see that you're able to change the default settings for all videos - or for specific videos. There are YT videos online that can explain the process way more eloquenly than I can. A note - if YT disabled your comments administratively, it could be due to content violations like using audio or video that is copy written. Another reason could be selecting "this video is made for kids" when uploading - that is generally reserved for videos exclusively for kids (think Cocomelon, Baby Shark, etc) which not only disables comments, but also limits your exposure to age groups that could possibly only gain experience from your video due to child labor violations.

Good luck with your recovery, and the build! Im happy to help any way that I can if you need an assist.

My IT son would have my head for having comments disabled!!!

Just saw the vid on line and yes, the dead time is odd. I can clean that up though.

Thanks for the input, greatly appreciated.

I found your videos a few days ago and am looking forward to the next installment. I have a complete kit on order and am the IT son to a recently departed father. I enjoy watching your build come together and I am taking notes. Thanks for taking the time to document the process/progress.

More than welcome, I really enjoy it and I'm, sure you will enjoy your build as well. The goal for the videos is to talk as little about my day and "what I was thinking" and just build the car. I'm certainly not a pro but hopefully this is useful to someone.
