Hello,
I want to replace the RF headlight pull switch with a toggle switch. I really hate the pull switch, it's big with very little amounting area on the dash and the RF plug is just a pain to connect/disconnect. I would like to install a toggle switch behind the dash far left drivers side. I am looking at the American Auto Wire switch #500148 https://static.summitracing.com/global/images/prod/large/AWW-500148.jpg. If anyone has replaced the pull switch with a toggle I would be very grateful in pointing me the right direction. My first opinion would be to have a one toggle system however thinking about all the systems that need to be integrated ( front/back left/right park/headlights) maybe a two toggle system tied together might work. I'm sure I am over thinking this. Before I pull the trigger and start buying/collecting items needed, I thought I would ask the experts first.

I have a FF MK4, Ron Francis harness, IDIDIT dimmer relay and the Russ Thompson turn signal hub.

Thanks, hope y'all have a great Christmas.

Jeff

I am accustomed to and planning to use this switch in my current (but really slowly progressing) build.

3 positions, OFF - ON 1 (driving/parking) - ON 2 (headlights).

My gauges have red LED lighting. I don't expect to need dimming for the gauge lights.

That American Auto Wire switch #500148 is listed as a turn signal switch. I'll leave it to you to decide if it's really suitable. But several things to keep in mind. That kit supplied Delco style switch provides a number of things. First step parking lights, second step add headlights. That function is useful in some situations. Gauge dimmer and interior courtesy lights. Both could be replaced elsewhere if part of your build. But probably the most important thing to think about is the Delco switch has a resettable circuit breaker for the headlights. The headlights are powered by a direct battery feed to the switch. Not through the RF fuse panel. So you would need to add an appropriate fuse or breaker.. Finally, the switch(s) you use need to handle the current of whatever headlights you use. A lot of work to replace all that, IMO, if you're going to hide the switch under the dash anyway. But that's just me...

I am also changing mine out to a toggle switch. I am using this 3 position switch.

One side will be parking lights and the other will be head lights on with parking lights. I will be using the button on my turn signal stalk for the high beams. I have a seperate switch for the fog lights. These switches are nice and heavy duty and handle 15 amps. Based on the bulbs from my kit, they are 5 amps each (15amps=60 watts/12Vdc). The parking lights will add some amps but it should not be much since they are led. You could also add a relay if you are at more than 15 amps.

Agree with what edwardb says, and to add, relays are your friend.

Thanks for the replies. A little late in answering, i was having posting issues. After searching and a few beers going to use the supplies switch located behind the dash drivers side. Going to install some screws to help with the mounting
