I finished my MK4 this fall and was able to drive it multiple times before putting it away for the winter. I had trouble negotiating the gas and brake pedals because of my size 13 shoes. I bought driving shoes but they didn't help with my problem. The driver's side floor was too close to the bottom of the pedals. I had to turn my right foot almost sideways to control the gas and brake. It was doable but uncomfortable on long drives. So, I decided to drop the floor to make it more comfortable.
Since my car was already completed, I decided to just drop a 4-inch area where my heel sits instead of dropping the entire driver's side floor. Here are some pics of how I did it. First I cut a 1-inch strip out of the floor directly under where my heal sits. I then made a 4-inch cut on the left and right side of the opening. This allowed me to bend down the front and rear tabs as you can see in the first photo. I then added a \__/ shaped aluminum panel to the floor. It was 9.5 inches long and 2"X2"x2". Once that was added I fabricated side panels to fit the ends. Everything was calked and riveted in place. This modification allows me to fit my size 13 foot on the gas and brake in a much more comfortable position. It was easy to do even though the car was completely assembled.

You Truly Created A Footwell!
.....Bravo, Bravo & Bravo!
I love the simplicity of the solution and don't really see a downside to it. Good work!

A solution for someone with large feet. A thought--would it have been better to go all the way forward with the drop down? When working the clutch or brake, is your heel going to catch in the trough?

I dropped the entire floor about 1 1/2" on one that I built for a big footed tall guy. This gave him some more room for stretching out his left leg when off of the pedals.

My heel does not catch on the edge of the trough because it never comes out of the trough. It gives me the ability to use the ball of my foot on the pedals instead of the arch of my foot. Just flexing my ankle is enough to move the gas and brake pedals. Here is a pic of the completed floor that I finished this afternoon.

Well done! I like what you've done, and have an idea for your consideration.
Looking at your photos, the accelerator seems terribly close to the brake. So I went out in the garage to look at mine. Keep in mind that my feet are not size 13, but they are wide. I modified my accelerator so it's a combination of the "kit" pedal and the coyote pedal. To me, it looks like I have a little more room, horizontally. Would that help you? Is there any other way you can widen the space? That would also help you. I have the same pedal caps as you, and I don't recall any sideways adjustment, nor do I recall any adjustment on the wilwood pedals themselves. But, maybe others have ideas, too. Here's a photo of what I attempted to describe. Ignore the dirt on the carpeting...

The deeper footbox is a nice mod if it helps. But my first impression as well when seeing the first picture was that the accelerator and brake pedals were too close together. Confirmed by comments about driving with your foot sideways. That's not only uncomfortable I would maintain it's a safety concern. There's a possibility of getting the edge of your shoe caught on the brake pedal with the accelerator down. "Unintended acceleration" is a thing. I scared myself a couple of times with my truck build. Totally different setup but same issue. I moved things around to make it better. Moving the Coyote pedal over somehow as Al describes is a good idea. I've used those AC pedals on a couple builds and like them. But in this case you might be better off with the Wilwood pedals that can be positioned further over and even cut down as some have done.

Great simple solution for your size 13s. I only have size 10s and they pretty much max out the availible space. Good work. As mentioned above, I used three Wilwood peddles and adjusted for maximun seperation. I used the FFR gas peddle arm with a Wilwood peddle which I bent as far over to the right as I could get it. I also added and extra 1.5" on the right side and 1.0 on the left side of the foot box to max out the space.

I have 14s, but not wide. Driving shoes were enough for me after adjusting the pedals. I can heel and toe, but not left foot brake.

Dropping the floor made a huge difference because of the length of my feet but I also have wide feet so the Wildwood pedals probably would help my situation too. I have those pedals; I will give them a try. With my driving shoes, I haven't had any issues, but having more space between the gas and brake would be nice. Thanks for the tip.

It was easy to switch the AC pedals for the Wildwood pedals. I gained about 1/2 inch between my gas and brake pedals. Every little bit helps. This was an excellent idea, thanks Rebostar.

Hey guys: it's PEDALS not peddles. To peddle is to sell cheaply like door to door or on the street corner. I just had to reply so I could sleep tonight.
