I’m getting the 18” Halibrand replicas with my Coupe kit. The kit will be completed December 28th with Stewart delivering it mid to late January. I would like to get it rolling ASAP.

What tires would you recommend and why?

Mostly street and highway, possibly a little track.

Thanks in advance,

Steve

Steve,

I'm running Nitto NT-05's on my MK-4.
I was previously running Nitto 555's and I could spin them at will.
My dearly departed pal Gerry Clives (RIP) has Nitto Invo's on his Gen-1 Daytona.
Gerry has 275/35-18's up front while I'm running 255/40-17's because I like the stagger.
Both cars run the same rears which 295/35-18's; however, the Invo's are better in the rain but are a harder compound.

Good Luck Tire Shopping!

I like the Falken 660, good sizes chose from, had a sale and cheaper than most. Use them on my Miata, driven on track and street with satisfaction.

I've used Nitto Invo on several of my cars, and like the ride quality, but nothing I've run comes close to the grip of Toyo R888r.

Nothing effects the performance of your car more than tires. You need to carefully evaluate your expected driving conditions and habits. Expecting a tire to perform well on the street and the track is somewhat unreasonable. That would be a compromise everywhere. The best street tire will certainly NOT be the best track tire, and vice versa. When I was tracking my FFR, I had a separate set of wheels and tires.

I drive my car year around. I sometimes leave the house when it's in the mid to low 30's. Road temps frequently hit 150*F around here. I have been caught in rain, hail, and light snow. My car is a fun cruiser, long distance traveler, and I do like my comfort (sort of).

I have used the NT-01's, and they stick really well. Not as good in the rain or light snow. They can develop flat spots if left sitting for a couple of weeks. It takes a few miles in the winter to get the round again. I could get 1 year out of the rears, and two years out of the fronts (must be a balance problem). I could smoke them at will, which was fun.

The 555R's are better for all around driving. Better grip in rain and light snow, they don't flat spot, and they last twice as long. I think the ride is a little better, too. They might be a smidgen quieter, but I'm not sure. Hard to tell in these cars.

The R888's are good until they get hot, and then they can get a bit greasy. They don't last long. And they can be downright scary in bad weather. I tried them on a track car, and got rid of them before the season ended (that hurt $).
