Evening everyone! Taking a moment to introduce myself as I gobble up as much information as I can on the forums.

I've been a car enthusiast for my whole life and have had the pleasure of owning lots of pretty cool stuff over the years. Currently, my daily driver is a 2013 981 Boxster S with a proper 6-speed and some light modifications. Anyway ... (here's wonderwall) ...

Keeping it brief, my father built this beautiful roadster after he retired. I helped a little here and there, but mostly cheered him on as I had limited time to build between a busy work schedule and raising three beautiful babies. Dad always had a love affair with the Cobra, I remember stories he'd tell me about always wanting one and a few friends that had them when I was a kid. Finally, after he retired he dove in and started his build. I remember going to the factory with dad and getting a tour by none other than Dave Smith himself - in fact, this was before the 818 was released and he let us get a sneak peek of it in prototype form. What an epic day.

Anyway, fast forward some years and dad nearly finished his car. And by nearly, I mean, it's essentially done - just needs some little nit picky things to wrap it up completely. Not long after, we lost dad to cancer (this past August). I miss him, he was a beautiful human being and amazing father.

Now, a family heirloom, I will be wrapping up the build and enjoying his work until it's time to pass it on to the next generation in my family. Looking forward to many years of keeping it immaculate and driving the crap out of it at the same time.

Lots of subtle custom pieces he had machined, such as cup holders. He managed to get his hands on a carbon dashboard from FFR too.

Here's the last time dad and I went for a ride together. He wasn't really feeling well that day, but there was a car cruise near the house and he didn't want to miss it. My son drive my Porsche and followed us. Great memories.

Cheers!

A sad but great story and an awesome car. That's a piece of family history you will enjoy over and over. Welcome.

When family is involved, in a cross-generational sense, the car becomes more than exotic hardware. It's always special because of the personal effort and imagination that plays out during the fabrication.
I'm experiencing the additional enjoyment of adding my wife's 13-year-old grandson. He has been working with me from the beginning (Aug '24). He can only come 2 days each week, but we make progress each time.
Hey, how many 13-year-olds can say they built a 289 Cobra???!!!

Thanks for the compliments guys! Color is actually a Harley Davidson color code, I can dig up the specific one if anyone wants it. I know dad has it written down in his build log somewhere.

If you aren't smiling while driving one of these, then you're simply not alive.
