What!!!! No auto trannies please, that is like not cool, stop that thought, unless you have a disability and you can't shift, it is a big no no in a car like thisThe real no-no is telling someone else how to build or how to use their car. As you even acknowledged, there are some out there who aren't even able to shift a manual transmission.

Dave in all due respect I have not found a donor impreza or wrx lower than 2500 unless the motor was blown or had major front end or suspension damage. If you or anyone can find one low cost in sorta one piece, send the link my way. I am buying a 818 kit as soon as it comes out. I have owned a wrx and a sti, Tehy are great cars, too bad I sold them. Great kit idea I love it!!!!!

search Copart and IAA, I'm sure that there are other salvage auto auction sites. I just bought an 05 WRX, 70K auction price less than $2K... shipped with tax and fees around $3K...
Damage is OK... as long as the drivetrain is intact. Perhaps you need a suspension part or two... no big deal.
I plan on a good recon and powder coating etc... I guess that it's time to make that bigger oven now too. The eastwood kit works great and free electric ovens are all over the place!

Would you mind posting more info on what you bought? Maybe a link to the auction page? I see those sites all the time but the advertising usually looks suspicious. Perhaps another thread if you feel its warranted.

in some states you need to use a representative to buy, many do not
I found copart from an earlier post on this forum
register, you can bid to 1K w/o a deposit for more buying power you need to deposit 10% for each 1000 incremenmt
easy to deal with them, I put a $600 deposit on my CC to allow bidding to 6K. I wanted to keep it to 5K or less. A couple lightly damaged 06, 07's sold for more than I wAS WILLING TO PAY BUT THEY WERE NOT DAMAGED MUCH. OOps bad fingers, sorry
easy to deal with them. You can follow virtual auctions live... It bids automatically up to your max bid or you can click to increment the bid
piece of cake. Now on Monday I need to pay the rest, fax title authorization etc and put my load on Uship to get it here. Uship estimates what is a good price or you can aution it... like the TV show
It's a 3200 lb lump of twisted metal... no big deal shipping it on the cheap.
you can follow stuff with the tools on the site, watch pre bidding they ID when it's going to auction etc...
For instance...
on copart, lincoln NE auction 5-1-12
ACV: $17,125 USD
Repair Cost: $0 USD
Title State/Type: NE CERT OF TITLE-SALVAGE
Odometer: 38,630 ACTUAL
Primary Damage: REAR END
Secondary Damage:
VIN: JF1GD79656G518159
Body Style: SEDAN 4DR
Color: GRAY
Engine: 2.5L 4
Drive: ALL WHEEL DRIVE
Cylinders: 4
Fuel: GAS
Keys: YES
Special Note: 9047
it is bid to $2150 right now. 10-12 photos are avail on every lot for sale. I'm guessing this one will go well over 6K... It was my next target. The right rear is crunched pretty good and some suspension parts are bent up, the rear wheel points left and contacts the chassis. It has plenty of salvageable parts. It would be an awesome donor. I wanted an 06 - 07 but had trouble passing up the 05 for so much less. The bigger brakes and stronger torque engine are not that important on an 1800 lb build
There is a similar 07 coming up on 5-8-12 that has right front damage... It's in CA

I've bought on IAA in the past with good success. I've also purchased wrecked cars on ridesafely.com. They make you jump through some hoops, and it's not as easy as eBay, but the results are worth it!

not really a crazy good deal, but considering what i could see in the picture you posted in the other thread, i would still call it a good to fair price give the year and condition, how many miles on it?

78kmiles on chassis, 28kmiles on motor, 20k miles on transmission. Retail value of all currently installed aftermarket parts: $16k
Yeah...I'd say got a decent deal. It's not a smoking deal, but it was my car, I know the history, I know the mods, it's an 06 so it has the nicer brakes, the bigger motor, slightly stronger trans, and the only WRX with aluminum front control arms and aluminum rear toe links.
Just trying to give an upper limit of what you should pay. State Farm goes based upon the average recent cost of comparable sales at a local auction house. Looking on NASIOC, it seems that on average people paid 25% of the payout for the buyback.

Most on this list would love to get your car as a donor for $4200, smile and be happy

I've been smiling like a dork for a while. Some people think it's odd considering I was just in an accident and totaled my car. haha
how is this post relevant?
Original thread title is performance expectations, so maybe it's related?

Lateral G's

Cost for you to meet your expectations.
Now I see why Dave isn't here with all the off topic posts and negativity.
