What is the most common set up for directional swtches and auto cancelling with the MKIV and its supplied steering assembly and wiring? Thanks

I've used this self canceling module from Signal Dynamics on 2 cars, one of them being a Mk4 with Ron Francis harness. I know quite a few other builders have used it as well and everyone seems to be happy with the product.

You can use it with two momentary pushbuttons, or a momentary rocker or toggle. It is easy to incorporate into the RF harness after making a couple of minor revisions. There are a couple of things I've learned that will make installation easier so if you opt to use it I'll be happy to walk you through its setup.

If you'd like to go a more conventional route both Richard Oben at North Racecars (http://www.northracecars.com/OtherItems.html) and Russ Thompson (http://www.norcal-cobras.com/store/russ_garage/mk3/mk3tss.html) have steering column units available.

Thanks Jeff. When I get closer to that part of the project I will drop you a PM. Nick

Jeff, does this require 2 seperate switches or buttons for the left and right turn signals to work?

No you can use a single momentary ON/OFF/ON toggle or rocker. When doing so there is a workaround that has to be done if you want to have 4 way hazard flashers.

A few of our supporting vendors (Russ Thompson, Richard Oben (Northrace Cars), and I think Mark (Breeze)) make a self-canceling turn signal set up. I have Russ's unit and it works really well.

I'd like to see our supporting vendors get first crack at any parts etc. before heading off to "outside" sources. If they don't have the parts, then by all means source what you need elsewhere. But let's try to support our own first.

Just my $2.00 worth (that's $.02 adjusted for inflation)

Jeff, I have a on/off/on toggle for my directionals and a seperate on/off button for 4-way flashers.

Try these guys... http://www.turnswitch.com/

I use the toggle switch version. Nice clean look and terriffic customer service.

When I had my alternator regulator go wacko and shorted out the switch. I called them to purchase a new system. After explaining what happened they asked me to send it back to them. 6 days later I received my unit back fully functional. The cost? Nada. This device was 10 years old at the time.

Can I wire it through my existing wiring to my toggle switch or do I need to run new wires to each of the lights as stated on their web site?

So if you are in the $250 dollar range for a mechanical self canceling signal how much more work would it be to install a true tilt steering column with a self canceling function?

Lots, since the chassis is not set up for a column or shaft anything like that. Additionally the amount of space that the tilt function takes up would leave the wheel inches away from the driver's chest.

That makes sense now that I look at where the column would want to exit the dash. There is a lot hanging out.

Just piping in to mention there is another alternative, though it certainly is not for everyone. Early in my 33 years of motorcycling, turning signals were not self-canceling. That introduced me to manual reset of turning signalsfor the first time in my life, and I really didn't mind it. On my MKII, I operate my turn signals with a DPDT center-off toggle switch. I like it because it matches all of my other toggles, and I have no stalks on my steering column: good from a simplicity standpoint. A simple DPDT (no center off) controls my high/low beams as well. Heck, I even have on/off toggle switch operation of my engine cooling fan. Basic and simple.

Pierre I actually like that simple idea. Heck half the time in any of my other vehicles anymore, I don't hear the directional clicking or see the light. I'm surely not going to hear them in an open big block roadster at this age. What was that you said? I'm a little deaf! It would make clean up the steering wheel. Thanks Nick
