I just completed my MKIV and have about 2500 miles of mostly around town driving. I have noticed the release on the clutch has been closer and closer to the floor and today it was fine one minute and the next the clutch pedal went straight to the floor with no pressure at all. I have the Wilwood master cylinders supplied by FFR and I am running a BPE 347 with TKX transmission. I believe the slave cylinder is a McLeod with a hydraulic throwout bearing.

I have heard the Wilwood MC's are prone to fail. Luckily, this was a clutch issue and not brakes, as the brake MC's are the same as the clutch.

Does anyone have experience replacing the brake and clutch master cylinders with the body on the car? If so, what kind of advice can you give me? I paid a lot of money for a really nice paint job and don't relish the thought of taking the freshly painted body off. I haven't done any testing to determine if it is the MC or slave, but I wanted to get some advice before I go much further.

Thanks in advance!

Bumping this up as I plan to proactively replace my three wilwood MCs this winter, too many failures from kits shipped around the same time as mine for my comfort. I wish I had known about this before the car was completed.

I have recently swapped 2 of the 3 and was able to do so through the access panel on top of the footbox. Taking the body off wouldn't have helped at all. It is the aluminum that limits access. My clutch MC is the most lateral/outboard, and I am hoping I don't have to replace that one. It is the hardest to reach.

Unfortunately, the clutch MC is the one that failed.

Are you positive it was the Master Cylinder and not the slave?
