View Full Version : How HOT are the CobraHeat seat heaters?
I'm considering wiring my heated seats with switches to match the others I've used on my build. They're SPST, so I'd only be able to have them set to HIGH or LOW.
When you use your seat heaters, do you typically use the HIGH setting or the LOW letting? It's not a problem for my wife because she would use 4X-HIGH if it existed, but I don't want to fry my butt when I'm just trying to take the cold edge off.
Yeah, I know -- a very subjective question.

Depends on how cold it is. If I'm driving in the mornings in the 30s, my warmers are on high and heater is on full blast. I can switch it back to low if it gets too warm on my backside. I put the switches on my trans tunnel cover. You can also consider hiding them on the sides of the trans tunnel behind/next to the seats if you want them to remain hidden. If you want the switches to match, I'd recommend the high setting and you can always turn them off and on if you get too warm.

For me, I could get by with low. I'll turn to high briefly but it quickly gets uncomfortably warm for me.
FWIW, I did dig into the CobraSeats wiring because I didn't like the look of the modern switches. I used two FFR 'Lucas inspired' switches on the dash, middle off, down for low, up for high. I wired up separate indicator lights which are dim for low, bright for high. PM me if interested in details and I'll see what I can dig out of my log book. You can see what the dash looks like on my build thread (https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?27168-John%92s-Mk4-Build-Thread&p=533921&viewfull=1#post533921) but there's not much detail on wiring.

I used the vendor supplied switches and mounted the to the dash supports I made. My wife always asks which direction is high vs. low. My response is, turn it on, you'll find out. For her cold blood, high is too hot. I accidentally turned mine on high this past summer. Thought I was melting from within combined with the engine heat. These heaters are awesome.

They are great, both my wife & I agree :)
And yes, you go back & forth between high & low, your butt will tell you when...
Great purchase

After some good feedback/advice (thank you) I decided to stay with the standard seat heater switches. I was concerned I'd regret having only the high or low setting. They don't match my dash switches but I think they'll look good in this location. The lower switches are for footbox blowers should I decide to install them, and they obviously match the upper ones.
I'll powder coat or anodize the panel black. Or maybe just throw some sharkhide on it.
