I know opinions are like...uhhh...noses - everyones got one and they all smell - but what are some great color combos that you have seen on a Roadster?

Everyone has their favorite colors and combinations. Most, including me, will cite their own as the best. That's why we chose it, right? For sure look at lots of pictures and see as many in person that you can. But in the end it's you that decides the great combination.

In the last week BAT auctioned an FFR roadster built by a youth tech school for charity. They did a beautiful unique coupe a couple of years ago.
This year's roadster is also unique, black over blue and very impressive. The styling choices suggest a professional designer was involved.
BTW it brought $100K.

I am a fan of subtle design, let the shape speak for itself.

These are the two I am considering for my next build. Genuinely a little stuck on what direction to go.

Check out Backdraft's website and look at their inventory page (but don't buy one....stick w/ FFR!;)). They usually tell you the base color & stripe color in the description and I found it helpful to visualize the different color combos. Eventually you may gravitate towards a specific color pallet. They have all kinds of color combos shown and have separate area for the RTB (blacked out) versions also. I also used Photoshop to quickly mock up what I "think" I want to do. There are tutorials on YouTube showing you how to change the colors and its actually pretty easy. There are free alternatives (like Krita) which you can also use to mock it up. Finally, either ask your painter to do a bunch of different spray outs or do it yourself. I bought a $20 airbrush from Amazon some speed shapes and then bought automotive paint samples from automotivetouchup.com and did spray outs then added clearcoat. Also had some of the leather from my seats to compare to the exterior paint options.

If timing works, go to the London Ohio Cobra show. Great event. Over 170 Cobras there this year. One of my goals in going was to look at colors. My favorite ended up being Kandy Brandywine. Odd for me to end up there when a red wasn't even on my consideration list. Also that car had gold striping. While gold and red are colors that work together I didn't care for that combo. I may go without a stripe or work with the painter to tint a color a shade lighter than the Kandy Brandywine so the stripe is very subtle. I saw many cars at the show where the stripe was subtle and really liked that as well.

Like Paul mentioned, everyone has their favorite. I always liked Blue and Orange. I also loved the race cars from the 60, thus the nose oval of the stripe color. Here's my graduation thread.
https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?44494-Milano-Graduation&highlight=Milano

I had picked the Blue color as Lexus Ultra Sonic Mica Blue and I search for months to find the right orange color. I found it on a Shelby Mustang Twisted orange. I say all of this so:

a.) You know many of us have struggled with finding the colors that we want to represent the image in our head.

b.) A cautionary tale. Unknowing to me, the blue I selected ended up needing a 3 step process. The painter approached me about it and said he'd have to charge me a lot more because he'd be painting the car 3 time he said. We talked about what I really wanted from the blue color and he found 3 different blue colors that were a single stage process that got me 90% or better to my goal. He even did some test spray cards with my orange and I picked the one that got me the closest to what I had in my head.

It's great to struggle over the colors in your head and get them just right, but then talk to a pro about potential pitfalls with the paint selection. Hopefully yours will all match up and no problems, but be knowledgeable and prepared to negotiate depending on your budget. In the end I couldn't be happier and there is nothing subtle about the car. It definitely stand out. Enjoy your journey building your masterpiece. :)

I went back and forth on color options, but kept coming back to a dark blue. It's amazing how many dark blue colors to choose from :)
I originally wanted to do a blue/red/gold color scheme to honor my wife's late father, who owned an oil company and Sonoco stations.
My original plan was for a blue car with white stripes and a satin gold pin stripe. I painted calipers and engine block red to get the pop of red.
My wife convinced me to omit a white stripe w/ my interior (custom tan) as it would look more classy and less sporty.
We compromised on a ghost stripe which Jeff K knocked out of the park.
Totally agree on going to LCS if you have a chance to check out other cars or find someone very good at photoshop. I also bought several cans of custom paint and sprayed some speed forms to better evaluate the different blues. My wife got tired of me showing her dark blues that all looked about the same by the end of the process.

Wow, awesome color combinations! Mine is the very rare royal blue with arctic white stripes:).It was already painted that color combo when I bought it in 2006. I always gravitate to traditional colors like Guardsman Blue with Wimbledon White stripes, but when I see some of these combos they look great also. So many options.

Yeah, you sure did. Thank you for sharing. This really helps.

So many great looking cars around here. There is a reason there is an explosion of activity on build threads once they are painted.

Stealing this idea! Found paint samples from a company that specializes in touch-up paint and overlaid the images in photoshop. I can do this all day
