View Full Version : Mid Shifter Won’t Shift

Getting ready to install my engine but wanted to run through the gears on the TKX first, but can’t get the shifter out of neutral. I have the mid-shifter from Forte. Shifter will lean right as if I was going into third, but won’t shift out of neutral. The shifter will not lean to the left for first/second.
I had planned to pull the cover tonight to take a look, but anything I should be looking for or adjustments that need to be made?
The input shaft rotated fine before mating up to the block and I don’t have the hydraulic clutch hooked up .

Try shifting while also rotating the input shaft. Sometimes the synchros need some difference in position to engage properly.

This might help. I know it's for a TKO but they are very similar:

As Matt said you may have to rotate the input, or at least allow it to rotate as you try to select a gear. If it's a lever type TOB you can move the lever to disengage the clutch however if it's a hydraulic TOB you won't be able to disengage it (another reason why I don't like them) but you could try turning the engine over.

Likely this. Mine was out of position after shipping. A simple task.

Cool.
After I rebuilt my T5 I had a bear of a time getting it to shift on the stand. Even rotating the input shaft by hand, it still had a hard time falling into gear. So I taped a deep socket to the input shaft and drove it with my electric drill at 2500 rpm and banged thru the gears. That loosened things up and got the oil slung around enough make shifting like new.
