OK guys... I've finally finished the tear down of the mustang (took me 6 months). And have now actually started working on the roadster.
So far I've:
1) Built a body buck
2) Separated body from frame
3) Did my first cleco and rivets (F shaped front end)
4) Assembled & installed upper & lower control arms
5) Assembled Koni shocks... can't figure out how to mount them on lower arm... anybody got photos?
Here are some pics of the workshop. I recently installed granite counter tops in the kitchen and re-used the old formica stuff as a workshop table along two walls of my garage.
Joy.

Shop has the essentials - TV, tunes & flag - but where's the beer? I used Forte lower control arms so pics from me might not be what you are looking for. Someone will post a photo soon. Nice start on the fun adventure!

Saratoga Springs? I didn't notice a heater out in that garage... You are either immune to cold or dress in many, many layers!!
Off to a great start. Congatulations. Keep us updated!

Are you using the Mustang donor lower control arms? If so you need to harvest the shock absorber mount from the donor's rear axle assembly. It gets recycled and bolts to the front LCA to be used as the lower mount for the coilover. It should be detailed in your base kit build manual, possibly under "donor parts preparation".

Jeff - yes, using all donor parts.
I assume you're talking about one of these (I think photo #2)?

Steve - yes, upstate NY... is COLD. No heat in the garage so I am multi-layered. Although recently I've been using my cheap propane heater and choking on Carbon Monoxide fumes. Have to leave a garage door ajar with this one.

Looking at those fancy IR Quartz heaters mounted on the ceiling if I can convince the wife. $$$

It's hung backwards. The union always goes in the upper left hand corner when hung on a wall.

I finally broke down a bought myself a kerosene or diesel (either/or) heater with blower from WalMart. It was not as expensive as the heater you described, and does a bang-up job! Now, I concede NC isn't upstate NY, but we end up having to turn it on and off even on the coldest days (20 - 30 degrees with a decent wind) in an uninsulated garage. WalMart usually begins discounting them around this time of year, and that's the time of year I bought mine, and get $100.00 off, so I got the larger heater for the price of a smaller one.
I know there are lots of choices, but I thought I would offer an option. I also don't have the Carbon Monoxide fumes, although I generally have a modest outside air source to help, and the diesel fumes staick around in the clothes a little bit, but it's a small trade-off to stay warm.
Again, you are off to a greeat start, and I wish you continued success! Please keep us updated!

Steve

Hi jakester,
It's great to let us come into your garage to see your build. I like your pulley setup. I agree with WIS89, the kerosine is the way to go. It's cheap and very efficient. I was able to heat a 36x24 space from 35 degrees to 75 in around 40 minutes and then used a smaller one to maintain that comfort level. Those guys put out lots of BTUs cheaply. No venting required.
Keep us informed. I like to see the real donor builds, too. I've seen some pretty clean builds like that.
See you later, WEK.

I have a 30 year old version of this kerosene torpedo heater.

Works great in my 3 car garage. When I first fire it up I aim it right at my work area from 12 ft or so away and am immediately warmed up. After 10 minutes or so depending on outside temp I aim it more generally or turn it off for a while. No problem w/ odor at all.
When i added the 3rd bay to our 2 car garage I needed a work bench and storage. I found 4 24 inch kitchen base cabinets on sale and snapped them up. Then wondered what to cover them with. Sears had a 8 ft. SS bench top which would be really nice but was approx. $250. Walked around home depot for ideas and found they had 8 ft. formica countertops w/ backsplash for $84.My work bench looks just like yours!

Craig - made me laugh out loud. Thanks for sharing.
Definitely need to do something about the cold & fumes of my current heating solution. Kerosene - I will investigate. Thank you.
