Almost paint time troubles

I am just about ready to send my truck off for paint. I have contacted more than 10 paint shops in my area....even MACCO. None of them want to do a full paintjob, they are too busy with insurance work. MACCO said they wont do a flat paint job only gloss. I just want to have my truck painted WWII Jeep OD Green. That should be easy. Anyone else have this problem? What is the solution short of painting it myself?

If you feel you've exhausted your list of painters within an area you're willing to drive to, and you're not happy with their wait times, I guess you need to expand your search area, get in line with one of the painters you've talked to, or do it yourself if you don't want to wait. I find it hard to believe there isn't a bodyshop in Prescott, AZ or the surrounding area that won't do full bodywork for you. For me, I'm waiting until Kleiner can paint mine, and he's 500 miles from me. That means I'll be trailering it to him (and back of course), and waiting until 2026, likely. Worth it to me to have it done right.

Have you considered letting students at the local community college have a go at it? Yavapai College has an Auto Body Paint and Collision Technology program.

That is a damn great idea. I work next door to Yavapai College. That never occurred to me.

Besides the college, many of the local Vo-Tech high schools in this area will do full paint. I had one car done several years ago and all I had to pay for was the materials. They did a great job in only 2 weeks and the students said they enjoyed the experience.

Flat paint jobs are harder to spray out then a gloss paint job. The flattening agent does not take well to blending/overlap from one panel to another. I used to deal with this and "Hotrod Black" paint jobs in the mid 2K's when they became popular. Takes two to three times as long (booth time is money) to get it right, worse if you did all the bodywork and prep and delivered the vehicle to the shop in primer.

PS: Just as an FYI, I owned a MAACO franchise and did concourse quality work when the owner was willing to pay for it :D

Actually as Mr Mustang said it isn't easy. There is no opportunity to fix or correct problems (dirt, sags, etc) without respraying. With a gloss finish those can be taken care of during cut & buff but with a flat/matte/satin finish there is no cut & buff so it has to be right straight out of the gun otherwise you're reshooting.
