My alternator is mounted just above the heater line connection on the water pump. There's a little over 2" from the end of the hose nipple to the body of the alternator. I cannot get a straight line on it. Has anyone else run into this problem? I think what I'll need to do, is install a 90 degree fitting at the water pump. I don't necessarily like this solution, but can't see any other way to make it work. I'll post pictures when I get a chance.

Any ideas?

I have a BP302/347 in my Roadster & had the same issue. I purchased a 90 deg elbow & ran the hose under/behind the alternator then arks back to the heater, I made a capture for the hoses on the chassis side to hold them from moving around over the length.

That is what I think I'll end up doing. I may try to find a SS 90 to use there however.

I've read about some guys pulling the nipple out of the water pump and threading that hole, then screwing a fitting into that. I don't think I'm at that point yet.

I used a Gates heater hose with a molded 90. Took it right under the alternator. I had to trim a bit off so that things worked properly.

I had a 306 and did the same thing. 90 elbow makes it all work.

I bought a polished aluminum water pump off Summit solely because it had threaded removable nipples. In my case I plugged them!.....no heater!
