Stupid Question: recommend lug nuts torque

What the recommended torque on the 18” halibrands rims ?

I was told by the local Les Shwab dealer that for alloy rims use 80 ft lbs. Thats what I've used on all my wheels, never had one come loose.

I always go 80-90 on the 12-20 lugs that our cars have.

Yup. Same here. I typically do them in two steps. 50 or so in a star pattern to confirm fully seated and centered. Then 80-90 in a start pattern to finish. Maybe overkill, but always have them that way.

Even under the best of circumstances, torque sticks are only marginally accurate. However, you should be aware that with cordless impact drivers torque sticks can be as much as 30% - 50% low, meaning that your 80# torque stick could inadvertently be tightening your lug nuts to 120#. This YT video explains why. I'm not saying that torque sticks should never be used, but IMO they shouldn't be used to achieve the final torque value. I use a 50# torque stick with a cordless impact for the initial tightening, and then follow up with a torque wrench to 85#.
