Must be that I'm a knucklehead, but installing the rear quick jacks is going poorly. Is there something I need to know? I got the drivers side attached, but on the pax side doesn't seem anywhere to put the inner sleeve and nut. I'd love to know how you guys tackled this one.

thanks - Fred

Look up the "Kleiner mod". It uses nut couplers to allow you to thread the QJ bolts in rather than trying to get a nut on the end of the bolt with the gas tank in the way.

I like the Kleiner mod, but I have no access to the tank side of the quick jack so not sure how I would get a 1/2" bolt in there. without dropping the gas tank and I don't want to do that it seems tough to reach. did any of you 289 types go with an option other than dropping the tank?

Learning more on this and perhaps if I remove the body, or at least raise the rear end I can get a threaded rod, 7/16" (not 1/2") and a nut on the tank side and work from there? I'll give it a shot. Any other advise is appreciated.

thanks - Fred

In the build school we lowered the tank. It was quick and easy with 14 of us and two instructors:)

So what time are you 14 coming over next weekend?

From the tank side you use a 3/4" long 7/16-14 bolt threaded into a coupler nut on the trunk side. With the tank in place the driver's side top and bottom is easy from below. Passenger side top can be reached through the trunk floor fuel pump access hole. Lower hole on the passenger side is tight but you can get the bolt through working from below and to the side. Takes some nimble fingers and possibly some swearing but definitely doable.

Good luck!

Jeff

Thanks Jeff. I did get both top and bottom on the driver's side. Nearly chopped off part of my finger on the bottom one. Seems if you don't bleed during a work session you aren't trying hard enough. I got the top on the pax side, but that bottom one........is a bear. I will buy the parts per your information and when I remove the body I'll install them. Lot's of swearing, which happens during a good portion of the build. Mounting the side pipe hangers on the 2x2 cross bar for example.

thanks again - Fred

For that last one, you could always use a length of all-thread with a nut and washer on the back side of the mount, then tighten the works up with the coupler. Basically recreating a short bolt, but with all-thread and a nut.

I like it. Thanks.
