View Full Version : Probably a Dumb Question - O-Rings for AN fittings on Aeromotive Fuel Filter?

I'm not happy with my bullet-style Summit fuel filter, so I've purchased an Aeromotive canister style fuel filter (12317). I've also purchased some -6AN to 3/8NPT fittings for it, so I can hook it up to my PTFE braided stainless fuel line that is already fitted with -6AN fittings. Neither the Aeromotive filter nor the fittings I purchased come with nitrile fuel-resistant o-rings. I assume I need them, or do the 3/8NPT threads not seal the connection in the fuel filter lid, sort of like brake line fittings, where the double flare seals it, and not the threads?

Thanks,

Greg

NPT threads are tapered. As you tighten them down the taper on the male side tightens into the taper on the female side.
There is still a small gap that runs around the crest of the thread that will leak, so you use teflon thread sealer ("pipe dope") on NPT threads.
The Permatex brand works well https://www.summitracing.com/parts/ptx-80632?seid=srese1&ppckw=pmax-oils-fluids-sealer
Be neat about the application. Keep it off the first thread or 2 of the male fitting. You wont need to apply it all the way to the shoulder of the fitting.

What? No spray foam? Oh yeah, that is for frame repairs from what I see on Just Rolled In on YouTube.
